I had my truck in the shop on Monday. I loaded in Milford In. on Tuesday delivering New Castle Pa. on Wed. $1100 frozen load. Loaded out of Salem Oh that evening, a fresh load with 3 stops around Chicago and then Sterling Il. $1400.
I am leased to a company and get 79.5%. I made $1987.50 on roughly 1000 miles, just a tad under $2.00 mile. I'm pleased with that.![]()

While area does play a major role in rates and how hard you have to work at getting better rates. Las Vegas is though so you will need to start prospecting business to get the freight direct. Then also find the local brokers that understand the difference between the problems they have with unreliable and cheap carriers. Build those relationships.
I use the load alerts with Landstar. Even have them set-up for areas that I get into on a regular basis. You will notice that the agents with cheap rates only post cheap rates. But when you see the post from an agent with good rates, call them. Follow-up with a note or e-mail. Then when you know you are going to be in area let them know. I now get calls from LS agents before they post the load.
Key is to not sit back and let things happen. Get on the inside and develop relationships so that you are getting calls before they hit the board or go to another carrier that is on the inside. -

You can lease on to a company and get $1.50 a mile loaded and 1.03 empty with their tags trailer insurance authority ect so you will be stupid to do it as a independent operator

Just got an email re: JB Hunt Power Carrier Solutions offering $1.25/m with .424 fuel surcharge. Anyone got any experience with this program?
-
That per mile price PLUS the fuel surcharge or is the surcharge included in the $1.25?
-
Last message I got was like $1.67 all in loaded and something in the $.60 MT. But surpised how poor the discount is on the fuel card. They are making money on that. If they passed their rate on they would have better luck getting people. But you get into OH and it seems like you have more Power Only guys than company guys pulling their vans.
-
Not too shabby at all. So do these guys run under their own Authority or theirs?
