I worked for them a most about 3yrs ago... All they can muster in a month was 4K miles.. Spent the last 4 days with them, at the Cash Truck stop on I-10 in Louisiana

That 900.00 net was from another driver bs ing. This is a fact, in 7 months exactly I have 3 checks that net above 700.00, Yeah I know what a joke. That,s running 14 to 14.75 hours a day, I never stop and eat or shower, in the 5.75 day work week. The job was just a winter job, and winters over so time to move on. The deal is there,s no driving jobs that pay a dam thing anymore, exept the energy field. That,s where I started, so I,m going back to it.

Everyone may continue getting calls from good ole JB because they just reinstituted their driver referral bonus. If they refer someone who gets hired and dispatched then you get $500.00.

i just spoke to a recruiter myself...they are now lessening their experience requirements for some dedicated lanes because they couldn't get enough drivers to fill those positions....wonder why.

I just finished orientation with JB Hunt. Our instructor who was the safety manager, made a comment about that. This is not a quote, but its a rough idea of what he said about that. They will take drivers with as little as 3 months experence in some cases, but mostly its still 1 year. Just depends on the job. Reason being is that newer drivers are easier to train. They are like sponges and want to learn. He was not pointing fingers at anyone because nothing beats experence, we all know that, but he has a much harder time getting his point across to veteren drivers. Did you know that most rollovers occur to drivers in the 5 to 7 year ranger. Not his comment, thats something I read about. But on the flip side, most rear end accidents are by new drivers. These guys are BIG on safety and logs, and I like that. I look forward to being one of there drivers.

Just talked to a JB recruiter. Offered me an OTR position at 39 cpm, 18 days out 3 days home, 2500+ miles per week, east of I-35 no Canada or NYC. I have close to a year local and 3 months OTR experience. One thing I found out was you don't get layover pay for weekends. Must be a lot of JB drivers sitting all weekend. I want to go for this but something inside says it's too good to be true don't do it, especially with the reputation JB Hunt has. Any advice?

I can recall when a JB recruiter called me 2.5 yrs ago. I was in the same quandry as you are in now. To me their pay and benefits seemed too good to be true. At the time I had talked to 5-6 companies, I had 9 months OTR experience at the time and no one was offering me more than 34 cents/mi. Then JB calls me and offers me 38 cents to start, a condo truck to drive which I take home with me and not only that they pay me the miles to the house and pay the miles from the house to my next stop. I was offered more home time and more pay by a big margin over the competitors.
So like you and many others I was like: this sounds really good.... but this is JB we're talking about so there must be a catch. Well I decided to take the leap. It's going on 3 yrs now and I am glad I came aboard. By and large they lived up to what I was offered.
The only thing that I could argue shenanigans was the miles. On the acct I joined it was 11 days out and 3 days at home 2300 mile/wk average. But as it turned out if you did come home every other weekend you'd probably average only 2000 miles. So they say stay out a 3rd week and your miles will improve. I did but the miles were kind of inconsistent. I had some weeks that were 2800-3000 miles and some others that were 1700. I did really well with my first FM averaging around 2400-2600 but once he moved to a different acct my miles dropped to around 2100.
The key to the miles is your fleet manager and the planner that works your FM's board. Personally what I like is that JB has lots of positions in lots of locations and they are pretty accommodating about transfers once you're in and have established a good standing. I have transferred a couple times and now I have a home every day job making decent money and home all weekend.
Yeah, sometimes they overdo the safety talks and yeah they are pretty strict but overall I'd say they are fair. If you want to work and you don't piss off your FM you can do well here. Good luck to you whatever decision you make. -
Thanks roadkill, I've seen some of your other posts about JB. Seems there have been a few ups and downs but overall positive and your have a good deal now. I just always have that JB Hunt reputation lurking in the back of my mind. Only one way I'm gonna find out what it's really like though.

The only way to find out what JB is al about is to join. Each to their own, as its said. For some it is a nightmare, others its heaven. Good luck either way. I drove for them about 20+ years ago. The horror stories were the same. Although, for me it was no different then any place else I have been. A real learning exprience.
