Wish you and your husband well. I think you will do ok with Smith. Smith was one of the companies we were considering before going with Roehl. Keep after JB Hunt. I can give you an email address of a Mahaffey who is VP of Lease Purchase Ops. I know your husband was a company driver but believe me you send him an angry email he will forward it on.

    More than likely waiting.

I know they have some sweet equipment. I have seen more than one driver polishing the chrome while waiting to load/unload. That indicates some pride in the company/equipment.

I just don't think I would want a black truck on those summer days though.

Hey Roadhog how is your husband doing so far driving for Smith? Just wondering because I am scheduled to go to orientation this next Monday.

So far, so good. The only complaint he had was miles. At first he was doing a lot of short runs, he likes to get out there and go. This past week and 1/2 was alot better, he talked to some of the guys in Roaring Springs whose been there awhile, they all said the same thing - Give it a month and the company "feels" you out and then once you prove yourself the miles will come. Still crossing our fingers. As far as home time, well he can come home every weekend, and when he does, he is under a load, so knows how he'll start out his week. Good Luck in everything, let me know how your doing.

Oh man, not enough miles?! :biggrin_2554:Oh well I guess we can deal for that first month. I will supposedly be getting home weekly as well, how much time at home are they giving your husband? I have been out of work for 3 weeks now trying to find the right company to get with that pays well and gets home on the weekends. The small company I was with, filed bankrupcy and I guess I got spoiled to running the way I wanted, being home when I wanted and getting paid pretty well too. I had several companys on my list but it looks like Smith will be the one. Thank you for the info and I hope everything works out well for you guys. Oh yeah one more question, are they pretty good about paying to get the truck washed fairly often? Just wondering because that was one thing my last company wasn't to concerned with, I would go for a couple months without a wash at times!

I talked to your hubby on friday. We were in mehoopany pa. He'll do fine. Just stick with it. Its a good company that will keep you movin. I am home weekly and still do fine. There are lots of short loads sometimes but they pay pretty good. Good luck and tell him I said hi.

Hey everyone this is one of the "nice" guys. He did stop and talk to my hubby about the company for awhile. Thank you. He's getting frustrated with the miles and I'm hoping he will stick it out. I don't know though, he was upset last night and said something about he could make 2 phone calls and be making more money. That's great, but we'll have no insurance again!! Guess I have to go back to a full time job and carry the insurance! Anyway - Thanks again, it's nice to know there are nice, caring truckers still out there! (oops, hope I didn't ruin your reputation!) lol
