47 is not too old to jump into trking. Now that freight is slowly picking back up its a great time to sign on![]()
Now you can always go out and get a cdl yourself or go to stevens who have the whole nine yards, 3weeks school where you get your cdl during the 3 weeks then 8 weeks training then you're on your own. I'm sure there are other companies out there that do that but I can only tell you about stevens due to me being an ex stevens driver.
They treat you pretty good, have the miles avg around 3000 a week.
The reset on logs is where you log 34 hours continuous in offduty or sleeper berth. Then you get a fresh 70 hours I have no idea what the 99 is. Ummm let's see what else. Well you can ask more if you need more![]()

Thanks Allan - I want the miles that's for sure. I thought that's what the 34 meant. Did you lease with Stevens or a company driver? -
baritone
I did both. My recommendation is stay a company driver. If u want to lease make sure u either do team or be a trainer. -
Sounds like you would be a great candidate to start a truckin career. My main advice is do your homework on the truckin company's that are offering you the oppertunity to school, train and drive for them.Sounds like you already know some of the companys to avoid I would add CRST and C.R.England to that list of stay away from.Just remember that the first year is the toughest and try to keep the big picture in mind.I still think truckin is a great career and way of life in spite of the economic troubles we are goin through right now.Best of luck to you
fr8tshkr Thanks this. -

Waiting in line for my PM, annual DOT, J1, tire issues, APU service, etc, etc. Looks like I'm gonna be here awhile.
-
Why, yes, yes you are! Watch the cost of your prorated PM. When you finally get the bill for it, it is going to be more than good ol' Royce promised you when you got the truck. Look at how much you have in your escrow acct. It will be almost gone when you get the truck out. Stand firm if you dispute any of it, and continue to ask for the money back. It WILL take a while, but you might get some of it back.
-
Yea, I kinda figured and planning for that. My escrow acct is still in the negative from the transmission ordeal. I had a talk with Royce yesterday. Apparently he talked to someone above him. An email or 2 was sent. Next thing I knew my DM calls me telling me that a vp (or something like that) was demanding that I come to the yard asap. Been trying to get in here for 2 weeks now. I think the main problem was a miscommunication or lack there of.
-
And what's with all the new Prostars here at the yard? Do they not plan on buying any new Petes, or KW's or Freightliners? So far, that's been the only "new" model of truck that I have seen come in.

wow,,,looking back at the last few weeks of this thread you can see a bad trend developing,,,,in the first few hundred pages not much to do with dipatch, loads, shop, miscommunications, etc... but last hundred or so starting to take that familiar bad downward spiral,,I hope that tis is just a temporary situation with the adversarial relationship the home office appears to be fostering,, a lot of it seems to center around newer dispatchers and especialy royce,,who,, it was my understanding,,,was supposed to be OUR liason with the shop,,,,I view this as a huge dissapointment,,,we are supposed to have a lot more control over our business (or so I thought) or am I sadly mistaken in that lease operator is not a good way to get into
ownership? well,,I'm here now,,and with just a few exceptions (shop and Load/time management) pretty happy,,better in some ways and not as good as I thought in other ways,,,bottom line......would definately sign up again,,,positives still outweigh the negatives for me,,,,what say u....fellow posters?mushroom1464, dabs, Vette1967 and 2 others Thank this.
