The federal government says otherwise as an independent contractor you have more choices than JCT gives you. In my opinion John Christner is nothing more than a common con artist.

Where's the con, they tell you up front how it is going to be. It's up to you to decide if it's for you.The Challenger, Alanp613, Jarhed1964 and 1 other person Thank this.

LMB you are so right. He was one of those drivers I referred to. He limited his business to less than half of the area JCT serviced wanted to cherry pick loads, and when his business failed he blames JCT. Then to show the world just how mature and capable he is and at fault JCT is he goes and starts a number of flame JCT pages including on FB. Calling out everybody for faults they may or may not have even posting pictures of individuals he likes to blame. I found it and find him to be sad. I have the same driver manager he likes to blame so much (Brock) and i do well. In all of his blaming of JCT and his previous employers he has yet to accept any responsibility. Until he begins to realize his part in his failures he will never achieve success.
LMB, WesternEmpire, TRKRSHONEY and 3 others Thank this. -

Originally yes I asked to stay west of the Mississippi River but then I changed it and just said no New York City. He'll say anything to cover himself and that's the way it is he is a liar. As an independent contractor you have the ability to say when you run and when you don't when you need a 34 hour reset it's up to you not to Brock But he thinks it's up to him to control your way on the road your life. I'm still going after JCT I'll keep you updated.

Well its definitely interesting to see all of the post that have continued since I was approved at JCT. It seems a lot of the people who fail at leases don't understand the whole idea behind the lease itself. Yes, you have more choices as a lease operator, but until the title is yours you will have to follow certain guidelines that the company has installed. The lease purchase in an of itself is not designed to make you rich, in fact most company drivers will make the same if not more money then you will as a lease purchase operator. But what the company drivers aren't doing is paying off a truck and learning the ins and outs of how to operate a trucking business.
As a trainer I have seen quite a few people lured in by the prospect of making great money in trucking, when the simple fact is, you have to pay your dues. Can you make money trucking? Yes. Does it come easy? No.
You will find that the successful lease operators take their time to learn how the company operates and don't judge the entire program based on a few bad weeks. They stick it out and find how they can make money where they are.
As far as JCT is concerned I was scheduled for Orientation after the new years, I had an unexpected hospital visit which pushed that timeline back. I got calls from several people at JCT asking how I was, they told me to get better and not to rush my healing process that all I had to do was call and I had a ticket to orientation whenever I wanted.123456 Thanks this. -
Ok, been away for the holidays for a few, and the laptop had gone down. Now I have a new one and I'm back, setting the record straight again. For once, I'm actually going to say something decent about JCT (yes, I'm shocked too!) First, don't get me wrong here, yes I do complain when I think I get screwed over and I also put my experiences up here to help others avoid similar mistakes. However, JCT does in fact have very good equipment to lease to drivers for the most part, which is a major plus in anyone's book. We live and we learn, we do and we strive to do the best we can for our families. For the most part, most of the staff at JCT are friendly and professional, but just as the saying goes, bad apples ruin the bunch. My bad apple at JCT was Brock as a driver manager. Maybe we just didn't click, maybe he's just a jerk, who knows? Why did I get so upset over the issue? Simple, when other drivers didn't work well with their driver manager, they were allowed to succeed in the program by switching dm's. I wasn't allowed to do it, and I asked 3 separate times, following the chain of command, but was denied the same opportunity. I had made the choice to do the JCT lease program to give my family a better life in the long run. Now, I will say this, for a driver that is either single or has their significant other on the truck with them, the program is a success. For those who actually desire home time, try and plans with the limited time you're at home, then it usually doesn't work too well, especially if you have a driver manager like Brock that was always changing my schedule, dropping the ball on t-calls, swaps, etc. Why do I say this? Simple, the loads with Brock had several days for him to figure out swap/t-call options. When the last minute came, even though I had reminded him on the QUALCOMM, he dropped the ball, went home and shrugged it off. I informed the weekend manager about the situation and he had it taken care of in less than 30 minutes! Brock couldn't do it in 3 days, but the other guy could almost instantly. THAT is just one example of why I felt unfairly treated and became so angry with JCT. They just chalk it up to another disgruntled employee and go on with business as usual. My own opinion after reading up on independent contractor laws as far as the IRS views it, shows JCT to be in violation of the law, which is an avenue that I'm currently pursuing. I will update as I have information.

Hear, hear. I was at JCT for a brief period earlier this year. I left them, not because they are evil, but because I am not cut out to run reefer. I have leased to a dry van company and am doing fine.
I get some grief from people who seem to have a nearly religious fanaticism against leasing or my company or both, and if I ask a few probing questions it usually breaks down to them not understanding how the business works.
Sometimes the problem is just basic stupidity on the part of the driver, but I mostly blame companies for telling people that helicopters would drop bags of money on their homes a soon as they sign the lease.LMB, Jarhed1964 and scottied67 Thank this. -
