Jerking from loaded trailer

It's every loaded trailer that does it. Can't all be broken can they?? I don't work for Western anymore, lol.

Volvo Trucks will now equip fifth wheel coupling devices from Jost International as standard equipment on Volvo VN and VHD tractors manufactured at its Dublin, Va. plant., which assembles all Volvo trucks sold in North America.

With only four moving parts, Jost fifth wheels are one of the simplest and safest fifth wheel coupling devices available, according to the company.

I 'm going out on a limb and say the driver may not have a Fifth Wheel Tester. So what else is there?

Lock the Brakes on the trailer and have someone look for slack as the Driver tugs on the Kingpin using only the force of the tractor. Using a flash light the driver must always check to see if the Jaws are in the locked position....even after tugging on the kingpin. ( yeah I know .....)

At the risk of overstating the obvious, make sure your landing gear is about an inch off the ground while they're under there. That's a real quick way to ruin someone's weekend, dropping a trailer on them if the tug test fails.
