As a new driver sometimes trying to understand what everyone is saying or telling you how you should do it, practice makes you get better...but get someone in your area that has experience driving and have them show you how to do it right. Thats what I ended up doing I found a driver that has driven truck for 40 years, road with him and watched and asked questions, if he will let you drive his equipment thats even better..i sat in the passenger seat, when we parked i went to work and jumped in the truck i drive and had it down in no time at all. To sum it all up reading this can be confusing when you got a hundred differnent oppinions! Good luck driver

well, actually.. I updated this thread trying to say my problem wasn't my shifting,.it was a trashy clutch. The clutch was trash when I got in the truck, not because of me.
Got a new clutch put in.. Now I shift smoooth. I think all that time trying to shift smoothly with a broken clutch helped refine my skills somewhat. -

Try not clutching, just accelerate, pull it out, into neutral, and grab the next gear, I never clutch other than when starting or coming to a stop.

I start out in whatever terrain the gear is needed. Empty or loaded.
Colombia Daycab 3 axle with E/F 10 speed 22.5's Mercedes motor with 784,xxx miles. Usually have 21-24 tons in the trailer
Short wheel base, terrain and load weight and angle of trailer affects the jerkness also. Not just the driver. 1st is ridiculous.
Popping wheelies in the landfill trying to turn in mud is no fun in first.
too much TQ then not enough momentum to get anywhere.

My truck was bucking just a little under certain circumstances. I changed the air filter and the bucking stopped immediately. I talked to the Otter about it and he said it makes sense. The engine cannot do what it is designed to do if it can't breathe.
Ranger70 Thanks this. -
Man I'd hate pulling a shotgun tank with an auto. Its got to be like letting a freight hauler drive. I tried it one time with a daycab and got about a mile from the yard before I turned around and came back to get one with a stick. that truck couldn't have been more confused if I had driven it down a railroad.
