Nope not the same place she worked for Global Express America out of Grand Rapids, MI and they SUCK so much so when she quit/got fired (depends on who you ask her or the company) she turned in her log book to DOT and filed a complaint with FMCSA, the IRS and may sue for a number of reasons.

I convinced her to contact OOIDA , and they recomended all the above things, and the quote from the guy at OOIDA was priceless, "Why are they even allowed to stay in business, they NEED to loose their authority before a driver or member of the public get's killed"

Well I talked to mike in safety he is also the recruiter, he was pretty cool about the landstar deal, said the company is thinking about taking on owner ops and would we consider running for them. I just hope I have a job when I get back to the terminal. Jj

Kind of figured my company would send me straight to a terminal to turn the truck in, but looks like their going to run the 2 weeks out. Have had some really piss poor communications lately between DM's and drvr' and has just solidified my determination to get the h e l l away from here!!

heck. i told my company delivery would be 10, cuz they onnly unloaded 3 trucks a day at designated times and some truck already has the 8 slot. got told to call this number becuase i need to get back for next week load. so i was able to get a 6 a.m.

90 minutes back but i can't load untill 4. so why was i in such a rush to get unloaded?????

this day run ended up being a overnite camp out. AND it had to be tarped to make the 2 hour journey. and now i get to camp out for the day for reload before i can go home. this c rap happens every weekend.

tarp loads pay $50. i've hauled 75 loads during my tenure here so far. 55 of which were tarps. NONE of which i got paid for. i got detention pay for that campout in seeley lake montana. while you all were being nationwide dot'd. but i have yet to see that money. i have yet to be reimbursed for oil and permits and scale tickets.

but they did pay me back for the clothes i had to buy for that oversixed load to albuquerque. sorry jess., looks like they get to keep there banners and flags.

and this company wants to expand to 20 flatbeds. some tankers. and reefers. when they can't even keep the 12 trucks they got filled with a driver.

i've figured out the pay they been reporting to me. cuz i get 25% of the load. but the numbers i get average around $1.25 per mile. i was told 25% of fsc. so far that's been a big zilch.

and lastly. my paychecks just keep getting smaller. i started with 3500 miles per week. we're down to 2100 now.

that just about sums it all up.

Piss pour is right, i told my dm that i wanted to be home today, 2 weeks ago, now i am sitting in el paso with no 70. thanks dm. was told that they changed the policy about being an owner op so i am hoping they have and i can get on to the Walmart dedicated where i was being trained. .90 to 1.20/mile, 3000 miles a week, $1.87/gallon after surcharges and rebates and home every 6 to 7 days. if i drive careful and keep my fuel cost down I think I could do pretty good and never be more then 1 shift away from home

ps my wife is about to make my dm and his boss a enuch

Fuel is 1.87 per gal after fuel surcharge, if the fuel prices stay up, and if your truck averages over around 6.5 mpg.
You are making assumptions that you should not. You may get a truck getting 5.5 mpg or less. Or you may get one getting 8 mpg. In which case fuel will be even cheaper.
And does that 1.20 a mile include the FSC? If so, then the pay is rather low.
Also, what other charges besides the fuel, truck payment and insurance do you have? How much are you figuring those will be per mile?

Lets say you get 6.5 mpg.
FSC is based on 6. At 2.00 per gal. Right now national average is around 3.80. I will not even worry about this in a calculation. I will assume that you will get 1.30 cpm for all miles including FSC.

    So 3000 x 1.30 = 3900
    3000 / 6.5 = 461 gal of fuel.
    461 x 3.80 = 1751 cost of fuel
500 bucks for truck payment and insurance
    100 bucks for other addons
.10 cpm maintenance ( yes, you will get this back if not used. If you have the truck for 3 years you will use most of this or all of it.)
    300 maintenance

So now total cost for week is 2651. While gross was 3900. This is a net of 1249.
You have not paid into your quarterly taxes yet either. So that will be an extra 15% of gross.

Congrats. You have now made just over a grand as a rent a truck driver.
If you have any big maintenance issues then you will make less than this amount. Or you can work as a company driver and make about the same amount with no risk.

Basically in order to make money as a lease Op. You need to run allot more miles than this, to cover your fixed costs. Or you need to have a higher rate. Running for less than 1.50 cpm will always put you in this situation as a solo driver. You will make a little more money, until something breaks.

    TooGroovy Thanks this.

the truck i drive is 5.5 or lower. i can get higher up north without the a/c. lower down south with the a/c. and i've got that POS 10 speed with 24 tires.

the truck i drove couple of weeks ago got low 6's with the a/c down south. and has more power too. also 24 tires but with 13 speed.

And another down side is your really not an owner operator but merely just renting a truck with an option to buy at the end of the contract. You have very limited control. I would advise against it and just save for a down payment and get your own where you determine what, when, where and how much you are willing to haul for. I've been there and trust me it rarely works out.jj.
