pulling a Flat or step I would consider $3 fair. Not sure what our guys with Flats are averaging but im pretty sure its well above $2 to the truck!

We pull a dry van and we average over $2 to the truck even with our DH.

I'M NOT knocking Mercer but its like any company you are not going to get good or great rates in the first year , its all about making contacts, making that contact remember your service and learning lanes!

Am I going to take a van into NJ? Not unless the rate is over $4 because all im going to get out is maybe a $1.50 if im lucky.

snowy, many places wont load on wooden levelers. they want em out of metal with a 4x 4 across the top, they got to look like store bought.

jess, ya got to take it all into consideration, at mercer you are on even footing from the start with how their first in first out system, a new guy has just as good a chance at a load as a 20 year vet. everyones situation is a little different. for the 25 per cent mercer gets, I have to pay only my bobtail ins of 20 dollars a month, they pay all ifta taxes at their cost, we never get a ifta deduction, all liability and cargo is paid from that. what we get quoted on our load board is exactly what the truck gets.
    .
what one has to do is know his costs, what he wants over that per mile and take loads on that basis. there is no one number that gurantees a profit. many should have learned the lanes before they ever bought a truck, while they may have driving for someone else, but many paid no attention.

ya know I have had the same cell number since 1996, I still get a call every now and again from a broker offering a reefer load, although I haven't pulled a reefer since 1998.

This new HOS rule is really sucking about now. Left out last Sat., got back to the yard Friday afternoon, and had 3277 miles. Would've been happy with that paycheck and a reset. With these new rules. I wouldn't have even been ABLE to START the reset till Sat. night and not be able to leave till Monday morning, so I'm now on day 9 with @ 4500 miles, and am tired as crap. Glad my "short hr" days are coming up. Need a break!!!!

But the public is saver since you will have less accidents with the new rules. Remember 19 lives can be saved. Gotta love the government and their rule making.:biggrin_25512:

since you are still running, you are picking up hours using the recap I take it, you got to remember that how we did it back in the day before the 34 hour reset. you are doing it old school like we did since 1934. its apparently working since ya still running miles
