No, I don't use it since the Volvo I drive has the full gauge package and the display has so many screens and drop down menus it confuses me.
I really should track my fuel and mileage more often, but the couple times I did I came up with the same numbers the truck did. This run is looking good. I averaged 9.1mpg to CA from WA with 4 pick ups in OR and two drops in CA. The weather has been okay and I only idled in L.A. when waiting on my first pick. Picked up the rest in Salinas and made it to Ashland tonight. I am down to 8.5mpg at this point for the total trip. Since I don't pay for the fuel and don't get a fuel bonus I run hard in the hills. My boost gauge is usually stuck close to 45psi and I try to use all of the 500 horses to go up the hill.
Lady K Thanks this. -
your truck gauge only tells you throughout the tank. it don't give you real time. between shut downs.
but then, you prolly never shut the truck down. LOL.
for instance. i get 4.1 climbing phoenix to flagstaff. shut down. then i average about 5.2 into beaver utah. shut down. climb a couple of hills then it's flat land land. 7.3. but the truck gauge says 4.9. so i know what i get bretween shutdowns. and i can see what my best cruising rpms are.
i used to get 3.8 climbing outta phoenix. thanks to the gauge. i bumped it up to 4.1 and 15 minutes less travel time.
i've used the gauge long enough to know where the best economy is. in the mountains. i'm over on the east to play now. and i won't be seeing anything but the overall truck gauge. -
here i sit. on the east coast. just a few miles from the virginia civil wars trail. AND I STILL DON'T SEE ANY FREIGHT.
i do however, see my lug nuts getting rusty from the humidity. wonder how much longer before my truck starts making that bearing noise it made last time i was east coast.
every truck i've taken to the east side has all come down with some type of noise. that disappears when the air gets dry on the west. -
My display gives me an instant fuel consumption like the scan gauge plus the total average. I usually reset the gauge before each trip to show me an trip average since we run the same lanes all the times. I can see the difference between our trailers and the different weights on the way back.
I think I have about 8 main pages on the display and each page has tons of drop downs to go deeper into stuff. You can set up a favorite page with all the gauges you want to see all the times as well. -
after bouncing around from penn, west va, va, west va, md, penn, west va, md, west va, penn, west va.
