I'm curious as to just how much trouble it was to get rid of 8?

I did not like 8 when I first got it but I eventually got used to it and now it is alright. It is what you get used to. Some people like it and some don't. I keep getting a notification that my computer wants to update to 8.1. Anyone know what that is?

8.1 is improvements, patches, and what not. it was also supposed to bring back the start menu. but i never saw it.

8 doesnt come with a media player. you have to install a program. there were other programs i had to install that used to be standard equipment.

i also didn't like hanging out with google just to learn how to use the da-- thing. specially with all the things i do that most of you don't. you practically need a owners manaul. and the sad thing, windows 9 that is getting ready to roll out. won't be any different.

i fail to understand why i would want my computers to function like a cell phone or tablet. add to that all the stupid crap they think you want. in their stupid menu they think you'll like.

i can see msft losing the throne with their stupid arse ideas since gates resgined from the company. might be time to start learning linux.

my laptop is an asus. i had to go into the mtherboard bios and change a couple of settings. then i had to change another one just to get my asus laptop bootable to usb. as my installation resides on a thumb drive. not a cd. once i got 7 to boot into the hard drive decision mode. i had to figure out why it wouldn't go farther and actually start the installation process. tried to keep the hard drive in stock form in case i ever wanted to reinstall the stock software. asus apparently didn't even install a program to create my own back up dvds. so that i could reinstall the stock software should the hard drive crash.

in the beginning of the computer age. windows used a fat file storage, then advance to fat32, then advanced to ntfs. NOW, comes UEFI with win8.1. along with that. are some new settings in the bios that motherboards never had before. the hard drive it self. was using some new partition system that's called GPD.

changing the board was no big deal. but knocking out the hard drive and prepping it for a old time windows system. was very time consuming. 3 hours was spent on the drive alone.

if you plan on buying a new laptop. and prefer the older windows. here's a list of items needed.

ONE INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS 7. (EITHER ON CD OR USB STICK).
ONE NEW MACHINE YOU PLAN ON GIVING THE FINGER TO IN FAVOR OF SOME OLDER, REALLY NICE OPERATING SYSTEM.
    ONE KEG OF BEER.
TWO BOTTLES OF VODKA OR WHATEVER YOUR PLEASURE IS.
    ONE BOTTLE OF ASPIRIN.
ONE MAIN COMPUTER TO KEEP YOU CONNECTED WITH GOOGLE. FOR ALL YOUR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. KEEP THE KEG HIDDEN AS GOOGLE DRINKS LIKE A FISH.
AND, IF YOU CAN SWING IT. A SIGNIFICANT OTHER TO PLAY WITH, WHILE YOUR KILLING TIME PLAYING WITH YOUR ELECTRONICS. IT'LL MAKE THE TIME GO BY SO MUCH FASTER.

i'm seriously thinking of stocking up on windows 7 system builder dvds. while it's still around. it may be the last msft operating system i ever use.
and for those wondering what system builder is. it's the full fledged installation that runs $200 at best buy. but costs half price. becuase it doesn't come with a box or technical support from msft.

GOOD LUCK, AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, LUKE.

one of these months, i'm going to start ordering parts. and build me a new pc. and MAY just hmm hmm 8 just to see how everything plays out on a HOME BUILT machine instead of a manufactured machine.

i'm curious if all the bs that came with the laptop, is a manufacture idea or msfts new thing.

don't know how that guy did it. but man, he released his brakes and just started driving. never even heard so much as his motor cranking over. and he's got a noisy motor.

one second it's all quiet. not one truck running. one second later he's driving away.

didn't wait for motor to warm up or nothing. and it's cold out here.

doned on me. dude don't have a working clutch pedal.

It's been a long drawn out trip. but we finally made it. 20 miles to delivery.

all we need now. is a truck repair to finish the journey. $2800 dollars plus fuel to get this far. for 1 road call and coolant hose. and 1 tow for fuel leak in coolant.
