I am working out how to get an Android.
My wife bought me a phone with my cheap one last year, when I did not want or need a new phone.
Now I want one and I will probably have to pay cash for it.
The only chance I have is if I can get a new one by her getting one. Not sure how that works. I know they have a buy one get one deal, but is it only for new lines?, or can it replace a phone on an existing line.
She is due for one. And wants a blackberry. So I have been saving money. I almost have enough to pay cash for one. But if I can get it cheaper I will.
Then I can get rid of my sprint card internet card and do it all on my phone, and save some money each month.

Just bought a new Verizon air card while sitting in beautiful Albert Lea, MN. Everything was going good till I got to this rest area in GA. For some reason, kept getting kicked off the network. After an hr or so with tech support, finally got it going. Had a heck of a time trying to get my sim card back in after they had me pull it. Paid attn when I pulled it out, put it back in the same way, but for some reason it wouldn't lock in. Wish they had told me it was spring loaded and would pop out, if you pushed it in. Pried it out with a knife. (can you say OOOOOPS!!) Finally!!!! Got it back in but don't know what the heck I did to do so. :biggrin_2557::biggrin_25513::biggrin_25524:

JJ was the one who was due for an upgrade, but he chose the Blackberry on my upgrade in April and now he is sorry he didn't wait because he wants the Droid:biggrin_25511: So he is saving his cash to get one, the droid does so much more than the Blackberry .....Welll so they all tell me lol, if your with Verizon then call them and ask about an early upgrade they have the $100.00 mail in rebate right now so there is a 100 dollar savin.

verizone doesn't use sim cards. gsm networks use sim cards. (att, tmo).
unless you have one of them worldwide phones.

verizon charges $30 for internet. $30 for gps. $60 for air card.
sprint includes gps and internet for free. and has unlimited mobile to mobile ANY carrier. for free. and can be used for internet. for free. and if you have mobile hotspot phone. that's wifi to your laptop for free. (with the right program).

i pay sprint $80 a month. for internet, gps, email, mobile to mobile, u nlimited text and pics. and can use my android for mobile wifi.

i have a phone. it does everything anyone has ever wanted a phone to do. and it took google to make it happen. if it had an actual keyboard. i'd probably throw my pc in the trash.

I think I am going to get rid of my iPhone and downgrade to a texting freindly phone which will drop my bill $25 and go get the Galaxy Tab (new bill) that will add $25 to my bill BUT it is android 2.2 that is Flash 10.1 capable, and with the right hacks and the proper carrier, tmob & maybe ATT it can be hacked to make phone calls. Might suck having 2 devices but a big screen for movies with out the laptop lag or connecting the phone phone for the no wifi zone. Still looking at price tho, I can get a 10" netbook for for $250 and demo 17" laptop for $350 or the Tab for $650. Tab might last longer and has less battery issuses and can go to the Android App store....... WOW I think I just convenced myself about what I am going to do.

Rubber Down and I'm gone over and out

easytether is free. pdanet is $30. (last time i looked into the program anyways). connect 5 thingies will cost you monthly. wireless tether is free. but has a 2 thingie limit. and does require your phone to be rooted. rooted gives you the ability to run programs that won't work on a non rooted stock phone.

the wifi connection is also slower then a wired connection. my phone is 4g. it is capable of 10meg download speeds. but using the wifi connection it drops to about 756kbps. that's an 80% drop in speed.

since your new to droid. and won't have a clue at first what your doing to root your phone. (we've all been there). there is a program called unrevoked. it won't root youir phone but it will make the phone act as if it's rooted. it's nothing but a program but gives the ability to run other programs that require root. course, if you do the updates that roll out from time to time. you lose unrevoked untill unrevoked itself gets updated to run on the phones update.

i have the sprint evo. there were 4 updates within 2 months. it's been pretty quiet as of late for updates on ANY droid phone. and google is starting to roll out a newer software version for all droids.

P.S. i hope your getting a 4g phone and not a 3g phone. connection speeds are 10X faster. and some people are starting to ditch there home internet in place of there phone now. 4G is THAT fast.

on another note. snow and rain and snow and rain untill thursday night in utah down the 15 corridor.
