I'm 63, what some call a late "Boomer"! I have no biological children that I know of. I was never given money by my parents much after I was 10 years old. If I wanted "spending" money I earned it. I mowed a lot of grass and also helped paint etc. When I turned 16 I was working in a local tire and tire recapping shop doing things like sweeping the floors for a few hours a day. Then at 17, I joined the Air Force. I was reading some of these comments and was reminded how a friend handled his "failure to launch" situation with his then 22-year-old son. He gave him a date to be out of the house. I think he was given 60 days. My friend offered to pay the deposit and help get utilities turned on. He had to fight his wife but stood his ground and the son finally did leave. The son finally joined the Marines and the last I heard is a Gunny and close to retirement. I spoke to my friend not long after I got out of the hospital last year. I always ask about the wife and kids. Today he is really proud of that son. Joining the Marines was the best thing that could have happened to him.

You'll be fine if you're ok with paying your dues running OTR for your first two years.

My son is 15, trust me I ain’t supporting no lazy 30yo. Food, clothing, shelter and an education..that’s all my kids get from me. If he wants med school so be it. Once graduated he’s on his own.

I had wealthy friends who raised their kids the same way except that they made their kids join the peace corps for one year minimum after college. This taught them values and broke them of the rich kid syndrome.

For the last 5 years of her life, I took care of my mother. I moved back home paid most of the bills and did most of the visits to see her doctor. It was a strain that even forced me to take some time away from work. That time off cost me one of my bank CDs over almost a year. Even in my 50s at the time moving back home felt strange. However, my older sisters did not have time to take out of their busy lives to take care of our mom. The day I drove home and as i drove up to park I noticed something I can't disclose here that mother had done. I knew I could not let her live alone anymore. To this day years later I am still pissed off at BOTH of my sisters!

    Whoops, mis-read/remembered your post
"I suspect my own son probably won’t get his first job until he’s 30" as meaning he was 30, sorry
