Would you park your truck for a local company position? How much would it take? Would you keep your equipment or sell it?

I may not be the most extensively qualified person to answer that, but here's my thoughts. The things that appeal to me about being a carrier with authority are mainly the level of control I have over what I do day to day, along with the potential risk/reward of running my own business.
To be honest, the outcome of equipment I own would be a minor consideration. That item would depend on how rewarding and secure the job offer seemed. In my opinion, your industry experience is certainly deep enough to make a good call on that.MJ1657 and Clasix1055 Thank this. -
If the job offer was good enough to get me to accept it, I'd keep my equipment for a while just to make sure it measured up to the promises that were made. If after a while on the job I felt confident that I would no longer need my own truck, I might consider letting it go if the offer was right. Otherwise, since it is paid off, it really wouldn't cost me a dime to let it sit for a while....maybe put some RV tags on it and use it to pull a camper trailer around when I go on vacation to get some occasional use out of it.

I think about it from time to time. So much work trying to get decent rates. When I'm busy I don't think it but when not busy have too much time to think. The thing is now that I've got full control of what I do that would be difficult to give up. Now I could likely work casual or part time and have the truck on the side for occasional work... ..but it would be a longshot finding a scenario where that is workable. At least hang on to your equipment for a while if it's paid for.

My equipment is paid for ... The approached me with a nice offer ... At first I was like no way then I was reading the benny packet and has my intrest peaked...control is a big thing for me .... I play a lot of poker tournaments and travel at times and like that flexibility to do what I want when I want ... It came out of left field and they said they wanted to approach me awhile ago but thought since I ran under my own authority I would reject the offer ... When I made the switch they saw an opening and decided to take it.... The money is close to 70 and has a full benifit package, 401k, bonuses, two weeks vacation, weekends off, uniforms, shoe allowance....not a bad deal...I hate slip seating...I like my freedom and control...soooooo...I will take the weekend and consider it

My equipment is not paid for but if YRC called me off layoff I would park it without a though

I just did the switch. Went to a local construction company, good pay and beny's and my stress level has allready gone down. Do i miss the freedom yes but i do not miss the stress and all the extra work that was involed in running under my own rights. If i get sick of this or it does not work out in a year or two i will just buy another truck reinstate my rights and call my shippers and go back to work. Did not tell them i was quiting trucking just takeing some time off to take care of some things.

I had my own truck in 1999 over at North American Van Lines. Made a killing the 6 months I did it. Fuel prices went up slightly and I freaked out, sold my truck and went to CF. What a mistake that was! I know several things have changed and it was a pain being gone all the time, moving people but I always had a fat bank account. I'd say fuel prices have tripled since then. I wish I never sold my truck and kept at it. I knew a lot of bed buggers back then retiring after 10-15 years. If I was wise I' be retired by now! Now I go from company to company being laid off or they go out of business. Right now I'm back at Reddaway after being laid off. I miss the open road.

I would not give up my truck regardless of any offer a company made to me.
There are intangibles that no company can match.
Namely, me deciding if/when I will work.
I have had too many times in the last 4 years someone else told me I would not have a job, it isn't going to happen again.yotaman Thanks this.
