Job search

  1. How realistic is it to find a local - home daily - cdl driver position straight out of cdl school?

Usually easy, but much depends on where you live. You're close enough to Atlanta to find something.
Gordon Foodservice - CDL Class A (Commercial Drivers License) required at hire or within 90 days of start date.
FedEx Freight - Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
    • Must possess 1 year experience within most recent 3 years, OR successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
G&K Services - Shuttle driver. - Must be at least 21-years of age; required for Class A driver's license.
XPO Logistics - Pay starts at $15.69 in Atlanta - have their own cdl school.
    McLane Foodservice -
apply for McLane Driver Training Program if you have less than 24 mos. experience.
    Sygma Network - foodservice.

Probably dozens more in Atlanta. Check some Temp Services that use cdl -A drivers.

Home weekly - up to $65K - Schneider : Stein Mart Account - $2500 sign on bonus.

Very realistic. Contact 50 employers once you have your CDL in hand and you'll have offers coming out of your ears. Pick the one you like. Don't allow yourself to settle for crapola.

I came out of CDL school with 3 offers of employment in my pocket. I took a tanker job paying hourly that had me home every night. They gave me a new truck, benefits, PTO, and training.

  5. Thanks guys.

I really, really, really want to work for UPS, or even possibly the US Post Office. But ... they require a minimum of 1 year experience.

I have 2 little boys - I do not want to do OTR, at least, until they are a little bit older.

I have heard that some people embellish their resumes with experience that is unverifiable so as to meet the insurance company requirements. (winky winky) You do know that there are no DOT regs that require X amount of experience, right? That's all the insurance company BS.

    Toomanybikes and zany_steverino Thank this.
  7. I have "guaranteed" employment if I do OTR. Not the direction I have in mind. My wife is ok with it if I do it for one year, but I am not ok with it.

The post office is a horrible place to work. By far the worst job I ever had.

I agree, had a contract with the USPS for three months and everyone I sent on it said it wasn't the nicest or happiest place to be.

    MidwestResident Thanks this.
  10. Ok, thanks for the heads up ... UPS it is then.

For OTR the good pay is tankers. Several tanker outfits hire new cdl grads and you need tanker/hazmat endorsements.
