When you use Eclipse, or DDL (both are computerized logging programs) you must print your log everyday and keep the last 7 on hand which is the same thing as loose leaf. Also keep in mind that the transportation bill was signed on Friday and that included mandatory EOBR in a couple of years... as to whether or not that will be enforced is still up in the air, but there is a good chance it will be. If so, all trucks engaged in interstate commerce will be relegated to getting them. Software logging is not the same as EOBR however, and has it's merits. Its like paper logging except it catches violations for you before the dot bear does. Also helps by producing IFTA data for your filings, and it also doesn't restrict you like EOBR's do. You're still in control of when, where and what it logs. Nothing wrong doing paper logs too, just a matter of choice. I like computer logging because of the report data. If you are a lease op and / or have an office doing your IFTA and such, then maybe paper logs would be just great.

well the money i do have is not committed its there if i need it but starting out with everything paid for will help with cash flow issues even my insurance will be paid for annually. so that should give me the boost i need to have a chance to getting money coming in. how ever i know i still have a lot to learn about this end of the business i only barely got my feet wet working as a lease op and am now dealing with parts of the business i didnt have to before. however if anyone knows anything i dont i welcome a pm explainning things better. im trying to get a full grasp of the business as best i can.

I see nothing wrong with these post petercar1977. I have done this for 38 of my 40 yrs out here. Hes done his math and seems on the right track and his cash flow for starting up is ok. He can always buy or lease a trailer instead of the high output of a cash deal.

If he is not dead set on pulling a reefer right off the bat, he could go lease on with LS and pull a van or a FB and make money and keep saving until he could go find a nice trailer that has everything he wants and buy it cash instead of having to finance.

I'm starting to look into the whole O/O thing again but I still have a lot to learn. I am just saving saving and saving so I have the lowest overhead possible.

well i have the money to pay cash for a trailer ive seen some decent reefer trailers 2001ish going from $5k-$10k not a bad deal i dont want to do financing and end up with a note that way if i want to take a week off for whatever reason i am not obligated to pay any extra expenses and have to run extra hard just to break even.

Just remember, if you want to go to CA you need a CARB approved reefer unit.

yes that and also the bottom skirting but none of that will matter if trucks emissions aren't approved for ca or did that not pass yet which im not sure of truck is or not anyway.

I to just bought a truck.

    2000 Pete 379 Long Nose, C-15 6NZ motor, 13 spd, 550 hp, 120" ICT Condo.

I wanted a tractor without the car rack on it so I could pull different trailers as well.
