The OP could have just ran empty over to PA and grabbed a load for $2-$3 mile easily. GROSS is what moves my truck. I'll deadhead (in route) 400 miles to get a load paying $2,000 instead of taking a load from somewhere close paying $2000 to the same place as the other load. Why sit and wait for the rates to go up, just go to the better rates.

For example: Denver to Chicago load pays $2,500 but a load out of Omaha/Topkea pays $2,500 to Chicago. Why would anyone bother with the Denver load?? Because they feel that DH is costing them money when in fact, if done properly, it MAKES you money.

No idea why the OP pulled a load for $600 to get him out of NYC when there are plenty of loads just across the river paying twice that.

If you have that option sure. $2-$3 a mile isn't an option to get a dry van moving very far out of PA though. Get stuck up there doing short hauls forever.

But you are also looking at taking loads that get you from PA back to your customer you have with good rates. Honestly I will not go to NY NJ PA ME and all those easterly states for less than $4 mile. That way even if I DH home I still made $2 mile round trip.

And yes, I can show you several loads going that way for $4 mile every week from Chicago.

Not my lane. I see stuff going up there for cheap $3 a mile from around here, somebody else can have that. It's a waste of my time and will cost me. I routinely deadhead 300-400 miles for loads, my deadhead is almost 25%,but not for anything less than $2.50 to the truck on the whole trip. Don't forsee that ever happening in the northeast which is why I don't bother. Although I could be wrong maybe someone is able to do that.

Nope, I'm down here in Houston for the weekend. I'll be making my way back towards home and hopefully I can get setup with some steady local freight.

Those rates were for 150-300 mile short runs, what we typically haul.
