you will not often get good loads off of a load board. you need to haul for people that can tell you what the load dispatcher and forklift driver looks like and their names. i have been known to set 10 days then put it in the wind and go home empty. i have been offered freight at 9am on friday for 1.75 and would tell them it would take 2.50. they would call back at 3.pm for the 2.50 rate and i would tell them that was the moring rate, it would cost them 3.35 for me to go load it that late. if it has to move you git it.

When I was up in Connecticut the load board had lumber no tarp loads posted for 475.00 it was a 600 mile run and out of Mass going to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They had over 40 loads posted flashing, wonder why they were so hot? < sarcasm >

My boss has taken these cheap load for "the fuel money" it was enough to get him back home which was all that mattered to him. But if its not to get him him he isnt afraid to ask for more money and often gets it. If enough people turn them down saying its not enough they get the hint.

I thought that the northeast had pretty good rates depending on what you're pulling?

It does if you stay away from the brokers and haul direct. Alot of those lumber loades posted by a broker for a buck a mile realy pay over $2 a mile. I know i haul direct for some of them. Theres also alot of steel out of this area that pays real well.
