Just Finished Driver Training

    Hi,

    I'm Rick. I'm glad I found your site. You have provided me with some fresh insight into trucking as a career.

    I'm retired US Army. My background is in law enforcement and media operations, which includes broadcast and print production for base newspapers and AFN.

    i completed school at TDI in Richburg, SC yesterday. I go back Wednesday to see the examiner to test out. In SC we have to wait at least 48 hours before we can test with an on-site examiner.

    Now, I'm sorta laboring through deciding who to first go to work for. I've also looked into the owner/operator possibilities and can see a lot of potential to log some serious miles to provide for my family.

    Be careful on the "logging some serious miles" these days. Things have changed; truckers go to prison now for some serious years for logbook hours of service violations if they're involved in an accident.

    Here's some companies to look at for some good money:

    Schneider Bulk (tanker)
    Superior Carriers
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Melton Truck Lines
    Howard Transportation

    Avoid the mega-refrigerated carriers, unless money isn't an issue. I'm not knocking the mega carriers other than the pay. Why make $30K - $35K when you can make $50K - $65K.
