Just Finished on the Road Training

With all that happens out here over the road you could never learn it all with a trainer hell i'm still learning evryday or two. With that said 1 week is way to short a period to learn enough for a rookie to be safe on the road. In a weeks time the average driver may bump 3 docks and only park 6-7 nights in a truckstop. I would say 14-21 days depending on The rookie and the trainer's review. 1 week i think is setting them up for failure.

 

I have to agree with TennMan on everything he said!

 

Take the ten week college course and spend January thru April on the I-90 corridor If you survive come back and tells how you did.

 

I would have to guess this time of year is when the industry loses most of the new driver's that aren't cut out to be OTR driver's.

 

You are right, I should have demanded to stay with a trainer until I encountered every weather possibility known to man, even it took me two or three years. That makes perfect sense.

Just so you know, I was not bragging about my school, I was just saying that the longer school could be the reason that I felt comfortable with the 10-14 day training period. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

 

You make light of it, but that 10 week course could never EVER prepare you for OTR. There are situations out here that you can only learn by being OUT HERE! Ive been out OTR for four years and there are things that I learn EVERY DAY! I suppose if Im out here for 20 more years, Ill STILL learn something everyday.

 

I agree i constantly learn something new. And the day i get complacent and think i know it all i will park the truck.

If you can find where it said that, then please show it to me and I will apologize publicly on the forum. Please do not add words that were not on my posts to make me sound like a know-it-all.
