Only if you let them. It is your responsibility as a businessman to make the most informed decisions. If you make bad choices then that is your fault for not researching the broker. They are no different than you. Do you go to BestBuy to get the same thing you can buy from walmart for $200 less? Their job is to make the most money possible just like you. Stop laying the blame on everyone else. Rather than posting 100 posts B*&&hing about how unfair you are being treated, try posting 100 asking other drivers who they use and who to stay away from. There is a wealth of information here that you cannot see because your stuck on complaining. Close your mouth and open your ears/eyes. Stop expecting everything to be roses. Welcome to the American economy its called CAPITALISM. Thats the problem with this country now! Young ppl all want a free ride. Try going old school.......... WORK SMART! Believe it or not I am on your side. Its tough today but complaining won't put food on the table.

You should have had all these questions answered BEFORE you applied for your authority. If you are worried about fast payments, you don't have enough capital to get started. You'd be better off staying leased to a good carrier. Having your own authority isn't worth the headaches...

Once you get into a groove, it isn't so bad. However if I had not started with an old truck I paid cash for. Things would have been tougher.

Man, in NC you simply walk into the license plate angensy for cmv with proof of authority and insurance. They issue tag, cab card and fill in heavy highway use tax right there. Then you walk 50 feet to a fuel tax office and get the IFTA stickers and presto! I suppose it depends where you live? The offices I am refering to is in Charlotte, NC.

Good news! Freight rates are climbing even as we type as the demand for trucks is rising fast. High fuel prices or not, shippers and brokers going to be competing for trucks. Got my MDI report yesterday and truck demand expected to get very tight on into the summer! It rose 8% last week alone! I already had noticed a change in past 10 days and a friend of mine who dispatches 6 trucks is experiencing the same. Due to fuel prices, freight rates will hit record highs within 2 months. The bad news, INFLATION.

they are starting to realize they have push us too close to the breaking point too fast and know we are about to revolt. I fear they will give a pitance and we will drop it and go on with out lives only slowly bleeding to death

    Possibly yes.

A large number of OOPS went under fast recently plus this is the normal time of year for freight rates to start back up and truck demand increases. I also had a CH Robinson rep tell me on Monday this trend takes place about once every 5 to 6 years. This year expected to be the biggest.

I hate even 1 Owner Operator had to go under from the stress of fuel cost but I have a bit of encouragement now that I had been needing. I'm under my 2nd load for the week that I was able to command 90% of what I thought it should be. Both loads from large brokers that I typically don't get excited over doing business with. I am curious to see how much negotiating leverage I have next week!

I had my father go over our old tax filings and it seems there is a corelation between the freight volume and rates when you factor in an election year and predominatly when you have an election year with no incumbant running.

Still doesn't help much when you are running for the same rates as we did in 1994 and fuel has increased 500% in the same time. Plus I remember my father saying the same about the ten years before that but that ws before I have any actual experience to comment on
