TMC sounds awesome going straight in, but man I don't know you should quit your job to go to orientation there. Doesn't seem to be any guarantees once there. You could lose everything.
Just got approved at TMC

I didn't quit my job, I'm still employed there but I've been laid off since October and likely won't be called back before March/April. For me I've always wanted to truck over the road and it's never going to cost me less money than it is right now to see if it's a career I can live with. OTR as a company driver will never pay me as much as I made hauling concrete, but I'd be willing to take a pay cut if the job is something I could love to do. I've got two or three months to figure it out, not as much time as I'd like but I think enough time all the same.

I did quit my job. There are no guarantees and its a gamble. But the same is true of just about everything in life. This isn't my first time around the block. I spent almost 5 years driving otr and loved it. Quit because my first wife hated it lol and all my buddies were working at American Freightways (which was an outstanding company). They got me in the door there so I gave it a try. Then they got bought out by Fed Ex and things got bad in a hurry. I just thank God I have a trade that allows me to take a gamble like this even in a questionable economy. I personally think that as long as you can hack being away from home and have a good work ethic you shouldn't have any trouble getting through orientation.
cplmac2 I will be wearing a black Mossy Oak tshirt and black hat. Hope to see ya there! -
I made it up here.. Trying to get settled in. Guess I'm about to head to the tv room and get to know some people. Then its time to get something to eat cuz I'm starvin!!

I have been reading the posts on TMC . Let me know what you think during your first day of orientation. My husband has just been approved and should go to orientation probably in 2 weeks.
He is going to give his current company a notice so he will not leave on a bad note. He was offered a job with TMC just out of school but went with US Express instead because they have a hub close to our home.
After getting the run around all the time from US Express and doing alot of sitting he has decided to take TMC up on their offer and switch companies.
TMC seems to have a more professional way of doing things so I hope the choice to change companies is the right one. I am kind of worried because I just want him to be happy with his choice. -
I just checked in and got settled myself, going to take a walk around and get something to eat.

Thx Rawlco and will do! Thx to everyone. You have all been very informative and helpful. Time to get some sleep now...

Good luck to those of you starting orientation. I'm looking forward to reading posts from you as time permits you to do so.

Well looks like this is the end of the line with TMC for me. Apparently their doc will not pass anyone who has ever had surgery or any health problems...ever... I had just taken and passed a DOT physical 2 weeks before I came up here same as I have for the last 14 years lol! This doc is a joke. In his defense that is probably what his job is per TMC's orders but I'm just speculating now. I don't want to sound bitter but this really smells of discrimination. Myself and 3 others were let go today all due to medical reasons. I have no physical limitations at all and never have. I am in good shape and take pretty good care of myself (a lot better than some that were in class). Just wanted to post this as a warning to any potential applicants. If you take medicine of any kind, have ever had surgery you need not apply.
On a brighter note I had another orientation with a different compay booked for Wednesday before I even left the training facility lmao! In Des Moines!! Thank God for cell phones even though I usually don't have much good to say about them. Best of luck to all the guys that are still in orientation and work at TMC. Be careful out there and I hope it works out good for you all
