from your post I understand you get to receiver and they are closed so you went 30 miles away? IS that right?
IF that's the case and you decided to drive 30 miles somewere just cause you wanted to, then you would get fired at my place to. sorry.

Why not wait at the receivers till they open?
One thing to be late and be there the next day and another to be late and leave some were else 30 miles away.

Yea that is funny. I'm not a know it all super trucker but I've been around the industry long enough to know who the bottom feeders are.

Well, what if he got to the receiver and they had a no parking sign?

What if the nearest truckstop is 30 miles away?

What if he wanted a shower, or hot meal and it was 30 miles away?

What if there was no restroom and it was 30 miles away?

I have worked for such ignorant types of companies. Must have permission to move the truck to a truckstop from a shipper/receiver, yet they go home.

    Give me a break.

    Use some common sense.

Come back after you have been in the position.

The OP says he's read the handbook but doesn't say what's in it.

He also says he called ahead of time and knew they would be closed.

I couldn't see myself going that far past the destination but it seems like a silly reason to fire someone who's still really new.

I agree there must be another reason.

Kind of curious about the $3.00/mile he cost the company also.

I am truly sorry to hear this. As we all know (see above) there is usually more to a story that what you read since you are only reading one persons version. I am in no way taking away from his statement - only being objective - well that just cause I am a "two sides to every story" kind of guy.

Millis is NOT a perfect company but in my 48 years of life and corporate experience there is no such thing!

I know it's imbedded into us that if you are going to be late - you are to let your dispatcher know immediatetly. Not the next day or as stated first thing the next morning.

Would love to know more about this if you're willing to share. Seeing both sides of a company is a good thing and think if we can all remain objective - let's discuss.
