Break - given!
Millis doesnt require you to stay anywhere that is unsafe, not habitable or otherwise. I have been in this situation and arrived to a customer with just the same conditions you speak of. I sent dispatch a message and let them know where I needed to go - which was about 60 miles to the closest truck stop - they were more than ok with it. I will say I didnt get paid for those 60 miles but there were no issues since I communicated with them.
So until you "have facts" of the situation - let's not just call someone out!
just got fired

You might get the right to drive out of route after you have years of experience with them and have proved yourself. I was reprimanded for the same type of thing when I was new with my company, Now they know me better and I would most likely get away with it.... Just had a pickup cancel, Called the owner of our company asked if I could run up the road 30 miles or so out of Wichita, KS and he said...... No problem..... Just now, LOL I found a spot just a few blocks away at the Phillips 66 on the N side of town off of 235. So I saved him some money.

I just checked (cause I have nothing better to do) and Chickamauga, GA is 72.4 miles from our terminal in Cartersville. So if that's what happend then you were 144.8 miles out of route - not 32. Not to mention that you passed at least 10 truck stops between Ringold and Cartersville.
So I really can understand them being upset over that. Still not sure all the details so I wont pass any judgement - just saying!Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
The OP says he's read the handbook but doesn't say what's in it.
subject to termination if 50 miles out of route

Never mind the fact you got fired. You probably wasted 2.5 hours of your 70. -

Take this as a learning lesson and hopefully your DAC has nothing negative on it. Some companies are strict on routing and some are not. Being in GA you have options; therefore, look at them.
Millis is by no means a bottom feeder. I have yet to hear one unhappy driver with them besides this one. I have been following this industry long enough to know. I would consider CRE, and Werner bottom feeders.
KHricrey99 and MojoPotatoe Thank this. -
