I'll reckon i would need all the luck i could get ...ty for that what is the load restrain course, because when i done my hr the done a load restrain but was showing you how to strap and ropes and also dogs..wasnt really in depth to be honest .
and if there were to be freight trainee ships they'd no doubt say no due to age especially mine .. they will say why should we train you when we can train some one else and will be in the industry much longer..
i know that sounds negative but just my way of thinking
just got my hr...syncro

load restraint course is what it sounds like. loading and unloading safely and correct tie down procedures. it wasn't covered at all when i did my hr oe mc licence, so i just think it'll be something that will help me get a job. and i'd like it for my own info. i've found so far that on the job training has been minimal at best in the 3 driving jobs i've had. i want to know for my own peace of mind that i at least have the basic knowledge to make sure a load doesn't end up all over the road or that i don't lose control of the truck cos i've distributed the weight of the load wrongly or something.
age shouldn't be a barrier to doing a traineeship. if you ever get knocked back for something that because of age, you have a clear case for a discrimination action. there is a cert 3 in road transport, but i can't find any west aussie reference to it. -
Hey you Pommie me old mate sorry i didn't read all the other posts all i can suggest is to try what i did, when i first started out with very little experience sign up with one of the Temp agencies like Labourforce, Able Placements etc etc the ones that deal mainly with transport companies so if some of the bigger companies need a tempery driver you drive with them for a day they get to see you working ablity and will hire you more frequently back in 2000 in Sydney just before the Olympics i did just that i was with Able Placements they used to send me over to the Linfox depot the did the Formica partical board deliveries the management there liked me so i pretty much got a regular job with them once you get the weeks or years up then you get a referance or referal from them and it should be smooth sailing for that point. i've never had any problem getting a job driving
pommie Thanks this. -
i hope age shouldn't be a barrier but i definitely don't want to go down the discrimination road, that will just make a rod for my own back kaygirl...
i have to try and see the skip people today as they was busy yesterday -

been meaning to ask pommie ... why did you go with a synchro licence rather than open? i gotta tell ya, i was really glad i went for open hr, cos it would have made getting mc so much harder if i'd had to worry about learning how to double clutch and stuff, as well as handle the trailers.
-
but i do wish that i had the double clutch one would have made it easier for work i guess cause id have been less restricted -
grr called pickerings in swan hill the hr guy there, hes saying more chance if had hc and that and hard with just a hr, and this time of year its more fridge work that's makes it to be a different story don't know why.
he wants me to call in and see my local yard and see what they have or can offer , i told him il do anything il even clean ####e houses lol.. -
yeah, the non-synchro is the road ranger. it just gives you more options, is all. if you had some spare dollars you could go back and do it. my tractor delivery job was in a 10 speed non-synchro. if you've got your non-synchro already when you go for you hc or mc, you can even do that in an auto.
starting as a yardman might be a good way to go. if they see that you're willing to work hard and are dedicated to getting any and all experience, you've got much more chance of getting on the road. and you'd probably get some time behind the wheel in the yard, just moving trucks around and stuff. don't give up. if it's what you really want to do, you need to stick to your guns and just keep trying. and it's always better to go into a place in person than just call. get your resume done up and drop it in at as many places as possible.
gawd, listen to me, giving advice on finding a job when all i'm doing at the moment is a junk mail round -
im thinking of going back and doing that again but with a different mob,Ive got it in bank but thats rainy day money lol. im of to see slugga in the morning at my local yard and see if they have anything to offer me, il do free work i don't mind anything better than nothing all i can say .
i have to stick to my guns , igot resume done ages ago i just update it every now and again .
