I am currently a soldier in the United States Army and going to be getting back to the civilian work force after 6 years. I have been a heavy equipment operator in the past (before the army) and during my time with the Army, I have had the chance to operate some large trucks and trailers. I am trying to decide if it is lucrative to start my own owner operator trucking business.

Thanks for your service. There are a lot of companies recruiting vets to become truck drivers. I would recommend doing some research and spending at least a year or two as a company driver. The reason I say this is not due to driving experience, but more so getting a chance to learn the up and downside of civilian trucking before you take that chance of losing lots of money and winding up in the hole. Good luck, and don't forget there are tons of people here happy to answer any questions you may encounter along the way.
