Reddaway might be better though, in your situation; they have a lot going on around Southern CA. Don't know about their benefits for a married man though. Probably be home more.
Melton Truck Lines hires from almost everywhere and has excellent health care benefits.
One reason I like tankers is the pay is pretty consistant week to week. Usually at least a grand or more.
Other trucking such as flatbed or refrigerated, the pay can really fluctuate week to week. It's just hard to budget if the weekly pay fluctuates, such as $600 this week and $900 next week then $400 the next week. Can still end the year with some good income even with the fluctuations.
There's another outfit near LA named Robertsons that runs cement and dry bulk tanker cement.
You have plenty of time to think all this over and do some research. Once you decide about when your refresher course will start and end, start some applications and see who offers you a pre-hire.
Get the hazmat/tanker endorsements even if you don't use them in the beginning so you have them ready and can jump when the chance arises for a good paying job. For example, I think Trimac Transportation hires in your area and after a few months experience with any type of trucking, you could go with them. That's one of those $60K+ jobs for a new driver and eventually over $80K after a couple yrs.MoneyMotivated Thanks this. -

You should be able to continue teaching English. There is a lot of people in Southern California that do not speak English!!MoneyMotivated and old time Thank this. -
Chinatown nailed it. Wish I had listened to him when I started. I went with a reefer company to start. And that's all I got to say about that.

I to also lived and worked in China teaching English. I was in Guangzhou for a few years and I loved it there. And yes they are scammed on some of the so called English teachers there. People come there to teach who don't know what they are doing and the kids are worse off than if they tried to teach themselves. Now I am back home driving again for a few years and then I will go back.

Hello,
I didn't teach in a school. I just tutored the kids who live in the same building were my house is. I actually plan on returning to my home there when I quit driving. I actually had my license expire while I was there for 5 years. So when I came back I started out like I did 40 years ago and had to get my license again. That was interesting to say the least. Any way I went with CRST, got my license and have been with them 7 months now. I actually am being treated well and my driver manager keeps us running. 7 weeks out 5 days off.
I know you read a lot of bad about them but it is working for me so I cant complain. I actually want to get into training with them after the winter as I feel I would at least train the people well enough to give them a good head start on their journey into this as I say Lifestyle not just a job.
I would stay away from Cr England and Swift to many issues. I know of that first hand. So I am not speaking out of turn. Team driving is ok if your co driver thinks like you and wants the same things so it has its down sides.
Ive been lucky I guess.MoneyMotivated and Chinatown Thank this. -
ttwjr32 what did you tell your job about your last job? A lot of companies are asking for job history but I am in China . I don't think they are going to call the school I worked at so what do you think I should do? what did you do?
