Hello Warhack.Could I ask if you pull your tanker with a bobtail truck or is it a tanker truck.I have a tandem axle 94 volvo bobtail semi and want to come out from seattle to work in the nd oilfields.Any info or insights would be greatly appreciated!Maybe I should just drive out and check around before bringing the truck out?

we use a 97 kenworth and a 2001 freightliner to haul 2 diffrent trailors 1 is a 160 bbl unbaffled and the other is 140 baffled. i have gotten to cut my teeth out here with the unbaffled one.......way fun
rrssllll Thanks this. -
oh and you need a pto to haul water and oil
rrssllll Thanks this. -
Well I have a 10 speed in the truck but no pto.So i guess the next question is what else is left that I can use the truck for?
-
get a pto installed and come out...not sure the cost but in the long run it could be very profitable
rrssllll Thanks this. -
I think so to.I am thinking march 1st or so.Thank you Warhack Really thanks for your time!

The numbers he posted would represent a driver making 1/3 (33-1/3%)as much as the O/O. Given those options, I would take the driver job as well. From what I've seen though, most driving jobs will pay in 1/4 (25%) of what the O/O is paid.
$5k/week would also equal $250k/year. I have never heard of a driver carrying nothing but his lunch pail making that much...even in ND....much less $250k/year NET. I have heard of o/o's making 250k gross though..in ND....AND in TX.
I think nd-newbie made an unintentional mistake in his post. -
My experience as well.Never made any real money as a company driver unless it was my company.P.S. don't tell anybody. Also I was just fishing for info for my equipment i.e. bobtail volvo and it's use in the nd oil fields.Do I drive out and have a good chance of having a co. put me under lease using their authority or ?

I dont know about just driving out....and I dont know anything about ND, but most of the tractors out here are just bobtail tractors. You will have to have a pump or pto or whatever the company you lease to requires. There are different ways to it...also depends on what you wind up hauling. As for specs on the tractor...I've seen everything from former otr spec'd trucks to full blown heavy duty oilfield spec'd trucks. In ND, you are likely to need something pretty heavy duty...just my guess. Your truck might be better suited for tx or ok..again...my guess.
