how come it seems that once you have absolutely nothing wrong with your truck and everything is working good something breaks.

my clutch went out today on my way to my first load for the day. no prior warning everything had been working great then it starts sticking in gear at a stop the clutch break wouldent stop the tranny and it would try creeping sitting at a light the longer you sat at the light the harder you had to hold the breaks to keep the truck from pushing you forward. stopped at one shop and had them try to adjust the clutch but no dice. by the time i made it home i had to shut the truck off in gear and start it up in gear any time i had to come to a complete stop. its sitting in the shop now getting a new clutch put in.

My new clutch was $1800 a couple of months ago.

I'll probably find out tomorrow what my dropped #1 cylinder sleeve is going to cost.

Truckin.............Ya gotta love it........or it'll drive ya crazy.

i dont know exactly what this is going to cost me yet. i called around both where i was at the time and was givin prices of 2200-2800 of course that depends on what they find when they get in there. most places were booked solid for a week, the freightliner dealer at home was able to get started on it tonight although the quoted me closer to the top of the range in prices the extra week of downtime will cost a lot more than a few hundrid extra on the repairs and iv had good service from this shop before so there we are. i was just by there a few mins ago to grab a few things out of the truck and they said they will have the transmission out in the next half hour or so then we should know what the grand total will be

i hope i don't find out what a dropped sleeve cost any time soon

I need to open up a shop and only change clutches. I bought a clutch for $800 and put it in within 4 hours with new throw out bearing and even had the flywheel turned for another $40. I learned long ago that when it breaks I have to fix the darn thing as shops rip ya a new one on labor charges.

EZ hope after this you have no problem for a while and can run peacefully and rack up the big bucks.

yeah i do most all my own repairs. if i had a shop to work in id be doing my clutch as well. but i just spent all weekend working on my truck and dropping a trans in the dirt is not worth it at this point. profit will probably be pretty slim this month but hopefully ill have a run of good luck after this one

I would do my own clutch if I had a good transmission jack & a shop big enough to pull the truck in. I got a new Spicer clutch, new t/o bearing, new clutch brake , flywheel turned & one oil cooler line replaced for $1800. I was happy with the work & the price.

well i haven't heard anything from them yet so i hope that means they found no surprises, ill probably swing over there after i Finnish my coffee this morning. went and had a few beers last night slept in this morning feel a little less frustrated this morning. and more optimistic.

i had this same shop run a overhead on my truck before and the cost came out less than what they quoted so hopefully the same happens with the clutch job. but if not then oh well they were able to get me in right away vrs waiting a week or better i get to spend a couple extra days at home and i shouldent have a issue with the clutch for the rest of the life of the truck.

the mechanic said that he thought we were going to find a original clutch in there when they get it out based on all the washers and bolts ect. appeared to be factory and didn't look like they had ever been removed. when i talked to him last night. and with 1.1m miles on the truck if that's the case then certainly got some miles out of it.

Betcha it's a Rockwell and there's no more adjustment left on it.

I poured me a 4x8 concrete pad in my gravel driveway just so I could roll a transmission jack on it before I did my clutch. Sakcrete is pretty cheap. I don't know what was harder, mixing the cement or replacing the clutch.

Bummer dude! At least you have it in getting fixed up and not sitting waiting to get in to the shop losing money by the day. My clutch went out just the same way as yours did in Los Angeles back in January. Cost me $3200 all up including the tow to the shop.
It's a PITA but you know it's good for a while now its a new clutch ,so one less thing right?
