I think that I have some answers for you.
I have worked for them for two and a half years now and I'm very happy. You will see some bad reports out there about us however if you look at the dates on them most of them are very old we have fixed most of our problems and they are apearently continually trying to improve. The equipment for the most part is less than 2 years old (most even newer)and we're continually buying new trucks.
You asked about speed; official line that they tell the newbies is that we are governed at 62 the truth is our trucks are governed between 62 and 65 depending on the truck. You asked about inspection when a truck is turned in it immediately goes into I repair department for a complete rebuild and complete inspection whether the truck was out for a week or 6 months it does not matter after that's done in the shop it goes to our detail Department and the gentleman that runs that named Albert is absolutely incredible!
You can make very good money working for us with the following caveat we are not the company for the driver that wants to go home every weekend if you go home on weekends you will not get the minimum pay. However if you go home on weekends you don't want to be a truck driver anyways at least not over the road. Most of our loads are night runs if you don't want to work nights we are not the company for you. You mention that you have a bad driving record well then we might be a good company for you the way we work it from the way I've seen things (I'm nolonger over the road I'm what we call a Raider ( most companies would call relief and Recovery)) if you damage one of our vehicles most of the time if you've been honest with the company they will give you an opportunity to buy off your damage and there are no reports so it disappears ( that is no reports to pass along to Future employers if you have a Dot reportable of course that exists)
Along the same lines that also means that when you get a truck from them you want to inspect it with a fine-tooth comb and list every single scratch dent or Scuf no matter how minor it is on the outgoing report that they give you an orientation it is a matter of Cover Your A $$ (CYA).
If you have worked for a company in which you are not able to get into operations you know how frustrating that can be , that is not how it is at K&B you can walk into operations anytime day or night in addition to that the owners work right alongside the staff you won't even be able to tell the owners from any of the other staff until you have been introduced to them it is quite impressive. As for maintenance as long as you report problems they get fixed. People who do not report problems do not get them fixed. Most of the time when I read reports on forums such as this and I see that people complain about their equipment breaking down and not being fixed you will find if you quiz the drivers that they did not report it in a timely manner or they let a bunch of little things build up without reporting it. The lady who runs our maintenance was headhunted from Freightliner and has forgotten more about semi maintenance then most people will ever learn she is absolutely incredible.
Now don't get me wrong like all companies there will be times when you will be frustrated however I don't think there is any company on the planet that won't cause frustration to you at some point. But overall I have been quite happy. This is even the first place I've ever worked where I even like my dispatcher.
If you're looking to be an owner operator or a lease operator we are not the company for you. We do not do that anymore. All of our drivers are company drivers (with the exception of 1 driver that was grandfathered in a very very long time ago from a company that they had purchased).
I have seen some drivers report in the forums that they were I have to drive illegal. That is not the experience I have had with them. As a matter of fact the company instructs all of our drivers 2 weigh every single load and to run legal HOS.
One last thing about the compensation they promise you the minimum compensation expect that to be your compensation it is quite generous but most of our loads are short runs, you can make more than the minimum but you really need to push your dispatcher for that IF YOU WANT more. But most of our drivers are quite happy with what they get.
I hope that I have been helpful. If you have more questions I'll follow this thread and try to respond if I see it.
Ejakesaw91, mattbh23, Paul Bunyan and 1 other person Thank this.
