Does anyone have any information on K&B Transportation? I am not able to find out much about them so far. They seem fine to talk to on the phone. They are located in Nebraska and I am not sure Nebraska has the internet yet. I do know that the Nebraska football team is not as good as Mizzou.![]()

Go down the road to Fremont, NE and check out Fremont Contract Carriers. Google them. Definately no sit time here. I have to sometimes pull the reigns and get them to to not turn me on the runs so quick. I get home every weekend, by the house usually a couple of times a week, and average between 12000 and 13000 miles a month. It's dry box freight with a lot of drop and hook (at least for the midwest regional). I don't even know what a layover is here. Never sat for more than an hour or two before getting next load. Even then that only happens a few times a month. Most times I am preplanned long before I get my present load delivered.
That kind of work isn't for everyone. If you like to play with Mary Jo at the truck stop, spend hours and hours just shining the aluminum, etc.... then you might want to shop elsewhere. But if you want to be productive when away from the house and then get home regular, then it would fit you pretty good. They have about 300 dry box and 100 flat trucks. Most of them are O/O with about 90-100 company trucks. They have the normal 48 state deal going on, but they have a midwest regional that stays moving well. I am O/O, but the company trucks are not bad. Most are prewired with 3000 watt inverters and shore power. They are in the process of outfitting all the company trucks with Tri-Pac APU's.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 4, 2008

As a company driver I was getting .36 a mile and a .04 a mile bonus each quarter. Never lost out on the bonus.. very easy to reach. I averaged about 145,000 miles a year, home every weekend and holidays, most weeks I was by the house 2 or 3 times during the week. I ran midwest regional. Oh.. forgot... did have a couple of weekends out in the year to cover a couple of loads that they didn't have power for.
As an O/O with them, I will gross a little over $220,000 for the year. Very same midwest regional and home time as I had as a company driver, but with the variable rates on length of haul, I am doing much better for earnings. Just this 4th quarter, if hauls go like they have been going, I will probably drop close to 40,000 miles. And still enjoyed time home for weekends, Thanksgiving, and will more than likely take the entire time from Christmas to New Years off as well. I did a couple of weekends this year.... same as above.... covered a couple of runs that they were short on power for. Even then, I was preplanned to return right back to the house.
This is not the exception to the rule for most everyone here. There is still a sizable amount of good running freight, even with the economic downturn. And, operations always tries to get all the drivers home each week... even the 48 state guys. For the regional drivers, it is automatic that they plan the runs to have you home on the weekend, unless you want to do a little more. But you have to let them know you want an extra run or you will be home.
The running is very high productive. There is little time for more than just running and resting. They don't want drivers sitting waiting on freight. You have to really plan your runs and manage your time. There is a fair amount of drop and hook, and a very high percentage of preplan loads. But the reward is a lot of good miles with realistic home time. I would have to ask ops about how layover would work... I have never layed over and it has never come up in talking with other drivers here. I am sure someone has layed over some time. Nothing can be that perfect.truckingpopeye58 Thanks this. -

Glad I could help. I was with another carrier before FCC that, I thought, treated me pretty darn good. Was with them almost 10 years till they sold out. Found out I had gotten pretty finicky about who I wanted to sign on with. After about 5-6 months of researching out various carriers, only FCC seemed to fit what I wanted. I was apprehensive at first, but am glad my last carrier sold out. I have been only with 4 carriers in the last 25 years, and FCC is pretty good. They really make you feel like family. Heck, even safety is a pleasure to deal with most times. They definately have a good sense of humor, even when dinging me over screwup on a log sheet. When I bought my tractor, the company virtually made it painless to get it on board and working. Every one from the owner on down is on a first name basis and they learn your first name and remember it real quick. They have a darn good bunch of travel agents in Ops as well. I will hold the owner hostage if I have to give up the gal that keeps me running. She is good. She has been dispatching for about 20 years and her dad is an O/O with FCC as well. The girl knows trucking.
