Tell her on your 1st RR you will meet her in Germany ,Greece, Italy, etc. You both get a nice vacation and it doesn't count against your 35 days. That way if you need to come home for a month for emergency you have banked some time. Plus it is a long ### flight. They fly you out of Houston to different places. Like England or Germany and them you fly to Dubai. Them they have a private 737 that flies you to Baghdad. They did put us on Emirates Airline from Gatwick Eng to Dubai. Man what service. Great food. Free booze except champagne. But still 2000 miles more air time compared to going to Kuwait. You can fly to Greece or Italy in about 5 hours and she can take the longer one. Just don;t tell her that is the reason. It's about 20 to 25 hours back to US with stop overs and plane changes from Dubai. Good luck!:biggrin_25525:

I have to say that I had no problems with KBR other than an obvious mistake most folks in country know (going to EAP for something) big no-no. But overall I would rate my experience here to be the best I have had. I make excellent money, I am fed well (too well), I have a room that is a hell of a lot better than any flea bag motel any trucker stateside has ever had (spartan yes but it is what you make it), and I have made some of the best friends I have ever had. A bond that started in Houston and continues to this day and hoepfully beyond. Guys I would never have been friends with back in the states for various reasons, and here I would do anything for them.
I get my laundery done, comes back a little stiff on occasion but it's free.
Bottom line, if you are expecting to come here make lots of money and not have to work, keep on looking for another job. You will WORK. Runs to Scania from JBB and back, you guys know what I mean. Hell even to Warhorse it's a full days work and then some and it is only a stones throw from JBB.
To me this place has taught me alot of things, and YES it has been hard but KBR gave me an opportunity to accomplish something that only the Military gave me the opportunity to do, and that was become something I can be proud of.
Will KBR cash me out with no regard to me? Of course but then 'He who has the gold makes the rules', and I knew what I was getting myself into here. I feel good hauling freight here, I know that no matter what the troops I haul for appreciate every bottle of water, piece of mail, and meal I bring them.
Is KBR a bad company? You decide, I know a good thing when I see it and I will certainly stay until the war ends or they fire me.
Should you work for KBR? I would think seriously about what you are leaving behind, family, friends, comfort, and concentrate on what you have to gain and are you doing it for the right reasons or are you a 'Supertrucker' trying to make it in KBR because you couldn't hack it in the military and want war stories to tell in a bar so you feel like someone? It's no joke here, but I like it.

You are dead on. I have friends in Ark, LA, OH that I met in Houston and still keep in touch with. One is still at Warhorse Kirkuk. He transferred up there after we got a crappy foreman at G-6 Echo. KBR has some real good folks and some real deadenders. They couldn't hold a decent job in the states and I never could figure out why KBR didn't run them off as well. But like you said it's all what you make of it. At least you got your own hootch instead of those #### tents. Stay safe buddy.:biggrin_25525:

I was there as a Marine and as a security contractor after retiring from the Corp. We did security for convoys, PSD and static security. I lived in the Green Zone, Endeavor, Delta and Falluja. Most of the Drivers I talked to were happy, enjoyed the work and were making good money....Every company you work for is going to make money off of what you do, that's the way it works....The work isn't for everyone as stated above. It's hot and dangerous. There were days in 06 and 07 that the green zone got rockets and mortars everyday for a month.....When I was there in the military I knew I would be going back as a contractor. If it wasn't for my 2 year old son I would stay until it ended....... As a Marine, it was great having the contractors, the way we lived compared to the first gulf war was .......well; not even comparable.......The only people you heard complaining about the contractors were the ones who had never been to war without them........ I enjoyed having them around as a Marine and enjoyed doing it as a civilian.............Besides, what else was a 20 year Grunt going to do for a living???????? If you go, God bless and be safe, cover your 6 and come home alive. Remember Complaicency Kills!!!!!!!!

I would like to add that if you are a brand new driver, it is not the place for you....Get some experience first.........I wouldn't want to be trying to learn how to drive a rig while having to watch everything else that is going on around me...Your reactions need to be second nature....I know KBR requires experience but there are many other companies that care a lot less than KBR and will hire anyone with a CDL...........Don't be surprised if one of those companies put you on the road in thin skinned vehicles with NO ballistic blankets............Yes, you could do a lot worse than KBR.........

Ok... I watched the video and a few things came to mind:

    1) You could not pay me enough money to drive an unarmored vehicle in Iraq.

    2) Why was this guy unarmed?

    3) I'm afraid I'd have been running that truck full tilt through the town as soon as the first rock hit the windshield. Move over... comin' through... thank you very much. If they're gonna take me out, then they'll have to dodge 40 tons of 80mph truck with a dead driver behind the wheel.

    4) And last but not least... let's think of the situation in Iraq turned around 180 degrees. What if they were the ones over here? What if Saddam was the one who found Bush hiding down in a spider hole? What if the Iraqis were going to save us from democracy and capitalism... against our will?

How many of you would be throwing rocks... making homemade bombs... doing whatever you could to make life difficult for the invaders?

    Thats very true
Many times who turns out to be a hero is defined by who wins

So then people who use force to undermine liberalism (socialism) in our country, will they be seen as hero's in the future?????
It all depends on how history turns out!!!!!

Obviously you didnt do a search on kbr.I am here now in recovery.I started a thread on it.I had a few friends come over and they said things were alot different with kbr then thhey were back in 05'...Most of the kbr employee's would ##### and say how awful kbr was to them.Alot of the drivers would ##### about doin turn and burns when we escorted them..Some compliants they had were true, some not true. But it was enough to not wanna get on with them til' my friends said they were happy with em'.I am at delta, and I like recovery..It has alot of pride in it...As far as the supertrucker not being able to make it in the military and wanting war stories,I know you arent talkin about me......Who are you reffering to with that?

Got two Albanian buddies from Anaconda I came over from Houston with heading to Delta as on base drivers. Great guys, English is rough but they will work until you shovel dirt over the top of them.
Experiences differ, I think prior military experience can make the difference between staying and not staying.
Supertruckers? I think we all know who they are. As for recovery....I have nothing but respect, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have a truck to drive. If it wasn't for me breaking them, you wouldn't have anything to fix.
