Big Duker,I am at G3 delta, just down the way from echo..You definetly hit that nail on the head man...The base is a far cry from anaconda, but its so mellow here that it makes up for it lol...In case you didnt know, they finally got a P/X at delta about a month ago lol...Rookietrucker,you can apply for convoy driver if you have your haz mat and tanker. The site says they want 3-5 years expirience, but I dont think they care.Just apply online and see where it goes..The kbr trucks are definetly different from the trucks we have here..They have european volvo and mercedes cab overs. They have synchrinized transmissions,so you shift them like a car. They have military frieghtliners that are pretty much frieghtliner fld day cabs. They have an international that is like our conventionals back home..18 speed automatic..Its a big sucker, and I will put some pics of it up somtime..The interrior is even like a state side international, but I cant take pics of the inside of the vehicles..brtescon,we will have to start paying medicare and social security..It will be a flat $500.00 a month..As long as you stay outside the country 330 days, anything up to $87,000 is tax free, excpt medicare and ss...But recovery isnt a bad gig,and the money is good enough..Alot more then I made when I was a soldier here....Well you all take care......
rookietrucker, brtecson and Big Duker Thank this. -
Iraqvet, I just left Delta a few months ago, I was with the security guys.
I remember when we first got our vans we ran one out of gas going to the fuel farm. You guys came and towed my little van to the fuel farm with that big assed wrecker...LOL...several of the guys at KBR was asking about going to work for us but I never got any resume's and we couldn't hire if you were on another contract. Sometimes when I see my check I miss that place!!!!!!

Well, I'm taking the plunge. Retiring from the AF (I went back to active duty after 9/11) and signing on with KBR if they'll have me. Just sent in my app. I've been at Anaconda for 2 tours in the last 3 years so it'll be like old home if I get sent somewhere near there. At least I know where the chow halls and PX's are! I'll try and let you all know about the hiring process if anyone's interested.

Thats sounds like a good deal Robbvious..Are you wanting to come over and drive?..If so,its a pretty decent gig..I like recovey, cause we are like the fire department..We dont do nothin unless we gotta get a vehicle on base or off base..

Yep, that's the plan. Although I applied for the convoy driver jobs, not recovery. You'd think that after 22 years of service, I'd not willingly go back to a war zone. But, I volunteered for every other deployment, so why not do this, too? Anyway, I've got no problems that $8500-$10,000 tax free a month wouldn't solve, the kids are grown and gone and the wife's cool with it, so off I go.

BTW, Vet, how long did it take KBR to get back to you after you applied?

It took me like 6 months..They had a long hiring freeze on recovery..But they called. And I was down in houston proccesing in a month..You culd spend up to 2 weeks in houston before you go wheels up,but they supply food and hotels..It may not be the best job.But you will make more then any company driver back home..
