I have a Cobra29LTD classic.
So everytime i talk through it and let off the mic, i get constant static through the CB.
Ive replaced the mic, antennas, new coax cable, and have put on an external mic with no luck. No matter how much i change the SQL, it always gives back static.
Is my CB bad?
Keep getting static through CB

Turn squelch clockwise until static just stops
-
I do. Then i cant hear anyone talk or it just starts getting realky staticky again randomly. Then i turn it back ccw and no static. I talk on the cb again and once i let go of the button on my mic, it just gets staticky again. Its weird

Be advised that cb traffic is nowhere near what it was in its heyday (mid 1970's). The reason you dont hear people talking is probably because they are not.
What I suggest is do a test at a truck stop where you can safely assume at least one other driver has his radio on. Turn squelch cw until static just stops. Make sure volume is up. Ask for a radio check and see what happens.
Some guys like to ride around with squelch full ccw and I guess there's good reasons for that, but I can't ride around with that noise -
When I want to hear everyone possible I leave squelch off, when I don't want to listen to static I turn up squelch and then I only hear the stronger stations. As mentioned there are not a ton of stations on at any given time so you may not hear someone right away. You can always ask for a radio check on channel 19 and you might get a response.

I work with about 6 other drivers and we"ve been trying to tedt it with no luck.

I have to talk to scale houses, landfill operators and its always staticky

Not saying this will fix your problem, but I had a bad plug in that was causing a lot of static. And, it never occurred to me till I came across this video.

wow the plot thickens. I'd be curious to see what happens if you swapped in another radio for a few minutes to see what happens

Is this a new radio?, or is it one you've been using awhile and it just recently started acting up? Have you installed an inverter or some other electronic gadget that's maybe causing the static? Is this a different truck that you installed your old radio in and now you have this static problem? When you get this static after talking, is the meters needle far to the right? Just a few questions to give us a better clue as to what could be going on.Last edited: Apr 11, 2020
