Little Rock then 40.
You will be a day to little rock then 500 miles to armarillo Texas. Then another 500 or so to what I recall as Gallup NM. Then Kingman Arizona. And the next day gets you into California.
Spring and summer time is the best way to learn the west before winter. Western trucking is NO JOKE. Eastern People do not get to worry about many things western truckers worry about. And to me that's negligent. Get a trainer to run with you out west to break you in.
Sometimes people discover mentally that they cannot cope with the wide open spaces. The west is a very powerful land and sometimes I think where God has forgotten to finish some parts of it, the devil has moved in because it's so ####### big. I love it.
40 is not a bad road to learn. But Im a tell you right now you will not want to cross Donner, 70 and flagstaff to phoenix or perhaps the Cabbage in eastern oregon. Or Western Nevada. (Walker Lake is a two lane road. You WILL be worried about your outside wheels falling into that water going around that lake. Trust me.) Death valley is no joke, A man can die in a day if there underlying health issues and dead in three days without water.
You will carry water by the case. You will carry food by the hundred pound. You will do these things because your life and possibly someone else's life depends on it. You also will want to fill out a medical directive, last will and testament and designate your estate, burial etc. Get all of that straigtened out before you go west. A snake can bite you and you would be all done here in a short time out there. This is no joke.
You will also find indian lands Such as the casino in Sky City New Mexico. Or signs on the Interstate that you are now in Indian Nation so and so or other. This is important. The Laws of the United States do not apply to you inside of Indian Land. If you for example steal a candy bar in a indian gas station on indian land, you are going to serve... *Pulls example.. 6 years hard labor on indian lands outside of our USA laws before you get back home to Kentucky. Do not be bringing 20 dollar bills with you into indian lands, The 20 reflects Andrew Jackson our President and savior of New Orleans but he is also a oppresor of indians and a bank buster with a long list of problems with them.
If you went inside a Gallup Walmart super center, your white (Or black or whatever color) ### will be the minority. And yes there some racial tension. But nothing too bad. Just be happy. And nice.
When you get into the fall in Oklahoma tornado time. Then wintertime in west texas. Usually means ice. This is not Kentucky ice we are talking here. We are talking ice that stops Texas for a few days. Carry chain.
When you travel around the west you are going to learn so much and enjoy so much hopefully. In some cases Ive never left the west. It's part of me now. The people are generous and happy to help if there is a problem.
one other thing. New Mexico Alb'que. DO not be stopping there if you can help it. XXXXXXXX will slit your neck in a heart beat. It's like a influx of illegals in sufficient numbers to eventually turn it into a greater mexico sort of situation and no more USA there in a few decades.
You will encounter your first mountain grades. Do as the others do and don't be stupid. You will be good. This is not going down hill for two miles a few hundred feet. Consider half a day crossing a mountain range until your ears quit working after you go up and down a few thousand feet before lunch.
Good luck!Last edited by a moderator: May 15, 2016

Wow! I never think about all that when I go out west, x1Heavy. I'm usually too concerned with being scalped, so I just carry a toupee.
razor1983, CJndaTruck and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Look in the front of your RandyMcNally, there's a 2 page- wide map of the entire lower 48. Lay a straight edge between your start and end points. Then follow the closest routes to that straight line. Of course, this presumes you do have an atlas, one of our more important tools.
dngrous_dime and crb Thank this. -
