Kenworth leaf spring popping sound

Dry or worn shackle bushings will cause a popping sound.

 

Did they weld the new pin bushings in? I did mine. Supposed to be press out and press in. No welding required. Well the new bushings would slip inside the spring with a heavy load on.

a couple tack welds on each bushing and no more popping. I even added locktite when they were first installed.

 

It's not shifting up and down, it's shifting side to side.

There should be shims to take up any free space between the shackle and spring eye/spring hanger. The popping does not happen because of worn bushings.

BTW, there are no slip in bushings. If they slip in, it's because the spring eye or hanger has worn too far.

 

How did you come to this conclusion? By feel, sight?

 

Hopefully they didn't put those rubber bushings in. Back in the mid to late 2000's we converted a bunch of trucks back to the old greasable style threaded pins. The rubber ones just wouldn't hold up.

 

You got long arms if you did that while going around a corner.

I'm not saying you're wrong about your diagnosis (yes I am), but your wrong about your diagnosis.

Your popping noise is not from up and down movement.
