    Just bought my first DEF truck. Was changing DEF filter and found this thing just zip tied, not connected to either side not sure what it is.

    I believe it is a fuel tank vent.

    That is the DEF tank filter for the air vent. Keeps debris from the atmosphere from going in the tank and allows for air transfer from in and out of the tank.
