Hello, I'm wondering if you guys know of a factory or good grounding spot for my cb antenna. I know that on the left side in the cab ontop of the door there's a factory grounding point. And also close to the left hood strap. I'm trying to lower my swr. Thanks

This is how you ground the antenna(s) on a T680. Same thing left or right. 20" ground strap.

Good video, but there is an issue with the ground strap, it should be right on the antenna mount, not on the mirror.

    Why?

Because there will be corrosion building up around where the mount itself is installed, he said he had to use a screwdriver to clean that up and using dielectric grease won't stop the type of corrosion with that type of Zinc diecast cover.

By the way, that's not paint, that is powder coated.

I know it's powder coat. Anywho this works with simple tools, and supplies from a local parts store or Amazon that most any driver can do. You should make your own video on the correct way to ground the antennas on a T660, T680, T880. In the end this works and it's a lot better than doing nothing.

Remember when you make your video. You're trying to teach other drivers how to DIY this, so don't talk over their heads. Most drivers may not understand all the tech stuff, all we know is we want the CB to work better.

No arguments with the video, a lot of people don't know what powder coating is, they think it is all paint.

The point that I am trying to make is that no matter what is done with the dielectric grease as a sealer (good idea), the corrosion will take place at the point of the antenna mount and the plate that goes into the mirror, which is aggravated by the fact it is a zinc mount (assuming it is a die cast piece and not aluminum) and will have more corrosion to it. This will eventually make the ground strap useless.

The best place for that ground strap is right at the antenna mount, no where else. You can get flat nuts for that can be used for the ground strap on the so-239 portion of the mount. tighten it down and good to go for a while.

It could work, there is just not a lot of room to work in that cap. Not sure how familiar you are with these, but the underside of the cap has a sort of star pattern that hold the 239 from spinning while tightening the female portion of the mount.

Thanks for the video. I already did that but my swr is still high. Ch 1- 1.8 Ch 40-2. I'm getting a 9ft by 1/2in ground strap delivered this weekend. I'm planning on making my ground straps. They are going to go from the antenna mount with the 4 screws to one of the mirror mount screws. And then to the top of the door factory ground strap that I posted a picture of. (From the looks of your videos your truck doesnt have it). In addition to the grounding point that our trucks have in the engine bay cose to the fuel pump.

I know what it is, I had one sitting here for a bit off of a scraped out truck, that piece was zinc. I understand the star pattern and all you are saying but here is what I've done with other mounts. I put a thin nut on the threads of the mount where the pl connects to the mount, then the grounding strap (they make a crimp with a locking washer type ring) then tighten up the pl shell against the grounding strap and the thin nut to make the connection. Eliminating the chemical reaction between the zinc and the steel caused by the dampness/salt water seeping under the plate.

One 22in predator 10k antenna with single Wilson coax. It's a t680 high roof.
