Today I was quizzed on where the levels should be and got ordered to load my daily run. My partner, Todd, was told to accompany me and make sure I had this route down pat. Looking at my manifest, I observed we were over 1K lbs in cargo; Therefore, I placarded appropriately. In addition, I had one extra stop and planned accordingly. I made the run without trouble and returned to the shop for shop duties.

I was asked by Larry, to fill tanks and filled 20lb and 5lb tanks of CO2 (the stuff for soda use) for Todds run tomorrow. In addition, I made sure my truck had everything it needed for the afternoon route. Todd and I then did the afternoon in record time. We compared jobs and while driving is nice, it is nice to be able to do some shop work.

Got asked whether I wanted to work tomorrow, and my reply was yes. Overall good day for me. No complaints thus far and my boss can read my mind on food.

Hey Kinghunter. I haul compressed gases for a private carrier out of Toledo, Ohio. Driving for a private carrier is the only way to go. Im in a day cab and stay in hotels every night. Im home every weekend and make $73000 per year. The hazmat paperwork is a hassel as are all the regulations but thats what makes me valuable. I take my time and cross all T's and dot all I's. The employer loves that all documents are correct. You are on your way to being a valuable employee for someone like Praxair or Airgas. Specialized hauling for a private carrier is the way to go. Good luck

Thank you very much my friend. I see have been told that this field is a specialized field. I would love to work for Air Gas doing a local route. I know they make great money and the benefits are there too. Anyone know anything about Air Liquide?? We get deliveries from them for our CO2. I plan on adding my tanker endorsement to my license just for that reason. I know a couple of local companies (orlando) that would be great future employers once I get a good deal of toolage. Only problem is they operate class B and A tankers.

Just to give you guys a sample schedule:

I go into work at 7am or 8am. I check the CO2 level and open the valves so the machines can be operated. Normally, we make dry ice first thing and fill CO2 tanks after we make dry ice. We can not operate both systems at the same time. While I am making dry ice, I am making wet ice blocks, taking out trash, mowing the lawn, taking inventory of our tanks, moving stuff around or servicing customers. I then do whatever is needed. I have no set schedule on for my duties. My boss could have me picking up trash all day long or doing whatever. At the end of my shift, I clean up, put my ppe away and bid the bosses good bye.

Only on Tuesdays do I have do a couple of customers. Right now I am learning and sometimes I find stuff to do. I like picking up garbage and pulling weeds. Yes folks, I do everything and love to have a professional appearance for the properities (my bosses boss owns the BBQ place next door). I run errands, do deliveries when our route driver is out doing his daily route. Todd is very funny. He says he is not, but trust me: His Australian accent makes me laugh. He claims he is from here but something tells me he heritage is from down under.

Kudos to Jimdriv3r for giving me my new CB handle, Ice man. If you have any questions about dry ice, ask away. I am more than happy to answer questions.

Had a nice day today and despite it being hot, it actually felt good to mow the lawn. Afterwords, I made a hotshot delivery to a furniture store and got back in time for lunch. after lunch, I unloaded blocks of ice and made a another batch. After one final chore, I was told when to report in. Overall, I am happy and pictures are coming soon. Does anyone know where I can history of an American LaFrance Fire engine?? The owner of my business owns it and if there is any history I can obtain, it would be helpful.
