I can not get the king pins out on a 1987? R model Mack. It has the threaded cap on the lower spindle. There is a bearing that came out with the cap. I took the drive in cap plug on the top of the upper spindle out. Does the king pin drive down and out? I have beat on top of the king pin but it doesn't move. What am I doing wrong?

Don't forget the retaining wedge pin. Like a bicycle crank, it holds the pin in the axle. Hopefully you won't have to cut it off.
Rideandrepair, MACK E-6 and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this. -
This is a 1986 Mack R model. It does not have a center wedge bolt to hold the king pin in. The pin is tapered. I removed the bottom cap that screws into the lower spindle arm and the bearing that is in there. The top cap is removed and I have beat on the top of the king pin till I can not beat anymore. What am I missing to knock that pin out?

I know my mechanic said he had to beat and heat one for a couple of hours to get it out.
But here is a video to explain what you mean by tapered pin.
