He only has a little over three months under his belt right now. He used to work on cars but his hands are getting arthritic and he had this crazy idea he wanted to be a trucker. He says he likes to drive but hates to sit around waiting. It would all be good if the pay were better. He actually is set to get 2500 miles this week for the first time ever! He will be out for min of 7 days to get that. He has worked the full legal time to make it. So I thought I would add up the hours, and it turns out to be just over $10 per hour. He wouldn't even have been able to get that many miles in except that two of the runs were drop and hook. The pickup and delivery time is killing the pay. I am wondering if they give more drop and hook loads to their long time employees. He has been looking for something local, but doesn't have enough experience. One of the slow weeks they sent him to pickup a load that had also been dispatched to someone else. So when he got there, he called dispatch and they said to stay there and wait. So he waited until everyone there had gone home and then decided to drive 80 miles back home. He never heard from them for three days. They also did not pay him for that. So that was one of the small checks. One of the other small checks I am still trying to figure out what happened because it was unexpected and I wasn't monitoring it that closely like I am now. There was another time he took a load 68 miles each way but it only allotted to be paid for one way, that load was refused and we recently got that weeks check and that load never got paid. He did his part, he wasn't told he wouldn't be paid for it. But there is so many things not paid for it is useless trying to even talk to them about it. They said they would reimburse him for getting def fuel because his gas card wouldn't work but that hasn't happened yet. They haven't reimbursed for a toll bridge he had to pay $25. Just this week they dispatched him a load but then changed the destination which was 228 miles more, but the dispatch kept the same miles. Hopefully that will be corrected otherwise he actually won't even get the 2500 this week. Their insurance is $1327 a month for a family, $850 for a couple, or $100 for employee only. It might be a fun job for someone young without kids or a house. But we are in our 40's. I have a 10 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. I work part time at the school in special education and am a full time student with only one year behind me. We were hoping trucking would be a good career. Although I am afraid KKW will know who my husband is, it probably won't even matter because I don't see this continuing for much longer. He still needs a good reference though.

Don't worry about being found out. The company doesn't have all that time to track down all the disgruntled drivers on all the forums on the internet. Also seems like it would be a blessing if he was able to get away from them. That insurance amount is a killer. I pay 29 a week for family at my company. But that's because its a very big company who hires a lot of employee's. I'm not sure where in California you live but. My company hires out of California, and may even give him a shot. Not saying he will get tons of miles but if you guys need the insurance. That in itself will be a help. We have a Western regional or he can do OTR. I'm not all that sure on the miles he could get on the regional, but I know on OTR. It's not all that hard to average 2500. There's a thing on the website that I'll send you that say's DO YOU QUALIFY. Answer some of the questions and see what it says. It may reject him, but I would still give recruiting a call anyway. Here's the website. http://jbscarriers.com/Drive4Us.aspx Let me know if you have any questions. I have been here over 3 years. Not all that interested in recruiting, but I do feel like you guys are being taking advantage of and believe this move would be a move up rather then a move down or sideways. Until he can get enough experience in to get a local job.

For someone like your husband who wants to drive, a good option for him would be linehaul for a freight company like Saia, or FedEx Freight. Usually 5 days(nights) a week and .54 cpm. A couple of nights a week in the motel but you get paid for everything that you do. Full benefits for a family are 40/ week. At Saia, after 10 years, the company pays all your benefits. You do need at least a year to even apply. Look to start applying next spring and you should be good to go.

not that i support kkw or question what you said about them, but there are a few good things about them i know from experience. maybe your dispatcher is not the best one out there. i can't fix that. you might want to talk to them and see if you can work for another one. but as the pay goes, you might be able to streamline it by taking pictures of your paperwork using your smartphone or ipad and e-mailing them. that way they get your data faster then normally and pay you quicker. not sure about now, but it used to be a legit option.
    good luck and be safe

To be fair I must say that they did finally reimburse for the toll and the first portion of the def fuel out of pocket. So they will probably reimburse the last one sometime. They issued a new gas card that is supposed to work after 3 1/2 months of frustration, we will see. The miles have been better the last few weeks. I think that is only because they are busy right now. The dispatcher is impossible, however other dispatchers there are fine (from what I hear). They assign the dispatcher based on where you live. They should get rid of her, but she has worked there for 10 years. So you would think she knows what she is doing, and maybe she does know all to well (she's evil). Still looking for something better but it will take time. Nobody wants to hire you if they think you are flaky. Which is exactly why I am warning others. Make the right choice the first time, so you don't end up in the same boat. That is a great idea to take pictures of the paperwork, so it will be easier to document.

KKW is not to be trusted! Fair warning to anyone considering them for employment. They under-cut his check again for 228 miles! They originally dispatched to Albuquerque, NM but then changed it to Las Crucez, NM. They said they would have the miles right, but they did not. This is not a simple mistake, they know exactly what they are doing. Those extra miles took an extra day. Last week they sent him up to Washington where he was to drop a trailer. They did not have another trailer, did not know where another one was. Another guy was up there looking for another trailer too. They sent him over 200 miles down to Portland to get a trailer. When he got there, there was not even a trailer available. They finally got a trailer the next day and sent him back to Washington to pick up the load where he had to wait 10 hours to get loaded with no extra pay. So the delivery was delayed. The **** dispatcher has the nerve to call up complaining like it was his fault. I seriously doubt they will pay for the empty miles (over 200) looking for the trailer. They do not have it together. The check he just got with the 228 miles not included only had 1400 miles. We put 3 1/2 months in with KKW doing everything they asked. It is no way to live. Every other KKW trucker my husband talks to is not happy with Suzie the dispatcher or the company. That is why they are always hiring, English language is not necessary. This company will soon be in our past.

mike, what are you talking about? she said he has 3 months experience and struggles to drive 2500 over the road. how do you think he will pull doubles for saia or fedex? keeping up to their speed requirements? winter is coming soon. snow or ice, fedex goes. let him get some experience. your advice will get him killed and as you read, he has two kids. although..kkw goes over some mean hills going from cali to wa, but still, kkw can pull over and refuse to move forward until safe weather..unlike fedex. guys, why do you give advice that will put new peeps in trouble? have mercy, he has family, for cryin out loud. he'll starve a bit like all, get experience and get going. same as any trade or field of work.

I feel sorry for all these drivers getting screwed by these crooked trucking outfits.

Do your homework before you take the plunge. Lots of dishonest sleazeballs out there.
