I have done l/p with 3 different companies. All 3 did 2 things exactly the same:

#1: Promised me that I would net over $1000/wk

#2: Put me in the negative by week 3.

Now some of you might say that I didn't know how to manage the money. My question to you is how do you manage the money if there's no money there to manage in the First place? You will hear of success stories. It is almost always the young, single guy with no kids, no house, no car. Only bill he has is his cell phone. Never goes home because he doesn't have a home to go to. But for that 1 success story, there are 100 that fail miserable...usually by the end of their Second month.

Go ahead and lease that pretty new truck that goes really fast. But ask yourself this one question; How on God's green earth do you think you will make it on $.90? when an o/o needs $1.25/mi + just to break even?

    desperado75 Thanks this.

Get a little experience, learn the costs of operating as a company driver (Write down the cost after getting a tire fixed, keep track of the fuel costs at the pump when you fuel, check what insurance costs, and make sure you know what the MPGs are on your truck). After that, if you still want to lease, go for it... But I would suggest getting a REAL lease from Kenworth or Freightliner etc. You at least get the full warranty and you can sign onto a company with more profit potential and fewer maintenance costs.

Not sure how to use the quote button but will try. The below poster has it right. I have stated the same thing various times here. Leases are very doable but not if you have a stay at home wife and kids and bills.

#2: Put me in the negative by week 3.
