The amount you pay in taxes is determined by what type of company you set up. :biggrin_25525:
First things first though, your business plan can make or break you..... http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...k-trailer-financing/32816-business-plans.html
For tax related help try http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucker-taxes/
There is also a thread floating around somewhere in the ask an o/o section pertaining to the different types of companies..... (s corp, llc etc.) as well as there advantages and disadvantages. I can't find it and don't have to much time to dig for it, but it would be useful to you if you found it.
Also note the expense of maintance. Tires as well as the unexpected. The more prepared you are for things such as that, the less likely you will fall under. Remember the big dogs are crumbling now, and not just in the trucking world. Think of Circuit City, and Goody's.
You can make it, you just got to be well prepared, and stay that way in todays market.
Also Fuel is also a variable to consider. :biggrin_25525: I am not sure what kind of fuel surcharge of any your company may have, but find out. If diesel sky rockets again, can you pay for it, and still keep the wheels running to turn a profit? Are you willing to find a codriver if need be? Perhaps train newbies? These are all things that O/O's have been having to do for the past few years in most companies, just to survive, and some sadly still don't.
I am not trying to sound pessimistic, I am just trying to give you a well rounded view, from what I've seen. You can make it, you just got to be prepared.

    Pretty much!! :yes2557:

I had a house in Fontana when I started driving back in '07. Within running distance was Schneider, Swift, Landstar, KLLM, CRST, and just too many to list. The entire west side of town (closest to the Ontario T/A) was no more than a huge truck stop and CDL schools.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but it seems to me it would be a lot easier to work for a company driving a truck that the company owns outright and make $40,160 per year than drive a truck that you don't really own but are still responsible for the maintenance and after all the mathematical gymnastics are done, still only make $40,160 per year.

Don't know who your dispatcher is my friend but mine has me driving the wheels off my truck. I average 2500-3200 miles/wk and my settlements are anywhere from $1500-$2200....and that is after my truck payment, insurance, maintenance and fuel are all paid. The exceptions are the weeks just before and after my hometime just due to the logistics of getting me home and then getting me back out into the "main lanes" after I come back out.

    I'm happy with the lease.

its prolly pretty easy to figure out who my dispatcher is seein that there are only 2 dispatchers for lease purchase. I guarantee ricky is ur dispatcher, and the reason ur gettin those miles if that is even true, because ur stayin out for a month or longer out on the road. I'm just sayin puttin that info out to most newbies is kinda misinformative. They see those kinda numbers and they think they can just walk in from day 1 makin that kind of money. I mean if ur makin that kinda money then more power to ya by all means, but since the lease purchase has begun,it already has a 54% t.o rate now.[according to Brenda] Trust me those numbers are goin up too. Why do u think the keep sending out those msgs about the lease purchase class to company drivers,it's because everybody has caught on.As for me,I make enough to pay my bills, not put too many miles on my trk, stay way under the radar, and go home when i want. But when it comes time for my last payment,u can best believe KLLM is in the rear view mirror!:biggrin_2551:

I just went into the lease not to long ago and I'm making good money. I'm running south east regional and i have never grossed under $3000 and i go home every weekend. There pushing the lease real hard not b/c of people dropping out but b/c they want more people in it. Jim Richards said a month ago there have been less than 30 people drop out or get fired for whatever reason. I really like the program and would recomend it to everyone. Alot of people are talking bad about it b/c they raised the payment. But what there not saying is the payments went up but you will own the truck in 2 years instead of 3. To me thats better b/c once I get my truck payed for then i can really start making some decent money. Just my thoughts.
