Knight might be "debt free" but only because they've shelled out the debt to their other companies. Like "Knight" doesn't own a single power-unit. Well they might own that cab-over, but all the hardware is owned by Quad-K leasing.

Now, watch me move this peanut, you keep your eye on this peanut, see the peanut here, now it's over here...

. . sort of. The Texas judge has dismissed them from the Texas case:

I have to believe that Knight can still go after them in Kansas but . .

This ruling means it is now down to Knight and Ashton to "argue their proportionate share of liability". This does not bode well for Knight. It's conceivable a jury could pin some of the blame on Ashton but how much?
    A few percent?

The bottom line is, I think the court has paved the way for Knight to take the full force of a big blow.

Why didn't the drvier stop? My guess is that since he was running illegally he was scared of getting caught. Another possibility is that he was on some kind of uppers to keep himself awake to drive that long. I think it said he had been running for about 60 hours straight.

Another possible (and probably more likely) explanation is that the driver is just an moron.

This whole story is unbelieveable though. I could see it ending up being turned into a low budget movie on the Lifetime Movie Network.

My first thought when I read the transcript was HUH???

How can you ''miss'' an accident scene and then ''run over something'' and not stop???? Even if you thought you hit an animal wouldn't you stop and check?????:biggrin_25513:

Depends on the animal. If it's coyote size or bigger, maybe. I got a fox not long ago. (Yes, my 'Skin friends, sprinkled tobacco) but didn't stop. Two reasons...well, three: 1-I didn't know what else was out there that the fox was running from like that. 2-It was small enough to not do too much damage. 3-that Big Mutha-Truckah ridin my arse on that two-lane! :biggrin_25510:

In this case, though, I would stop at least to see whether anyone needed help. 'Course, most of the folks speaking here would not have run through the middle of it. Our Mr. M was scared out of his mind. That's my unknowing assessment.

That's my point Injun- drivng thru the accident scene AND then running over something-you would have stopped.

I get what you say about the fox and that is something I would not have thought of so thanks! Like you said who knows what was chasing that fox???

Seems likely to me. Unfortunately, Knight is not the only company that hires morons. And a lot of morons actually have their own authority.

IF Knight, as a company entity, did the covering up, then they should be hung. If it was a case of individuals, and individual terminals, making these ####### decisions on their own, then the responsible individuals/terminals should be held to the fire. And yes, Knight would still, in that case, have some responsibility for having them on the payroll in the first place. Some.

I know I am on the wrong side of the equation here, but I am reminded of the "MCDonald's ""hot coffee"" case", and am also mindful of the "usual suspects" circling around here like sharks around a crippled swimmer.

I don't give a fig if the Knight family has to pay through the nose (provided they have, in fact, actually done wrong), but I do question the hate here for all the other employees who have no more to do with this case than they, and/or you, have to with the earthquake in Japan.

Again, if there was a cover-up/destroying evidence plot on the part of Knight, hang them. Individuals messing up big-time? Go after them.

    Individual responsibility, right?

8 pages and 1 week after the original post and that is the best the Knight cheerleaders can come up with???

I guess it's understandable though because it would be impossible to defend Knight in this case!!!

That driver ought to lose his CDL and his freedom....Knight ought to be shut down!

Any company that does the things in that case has no right to operate.

They netted 61m and 50m?...How many trucks do they have?
