My personal chevy tahoe has 209,000 on it and still runs awesome so i would expect a commercial diesel truck to last much longer.

They have to save money for their loss funds: Ashton vs Knight Transportation.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
This is all well and good. But didn't you feel valued and respected throughout this experience?
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Because the recruiters BS and lie to some of these drivers about getting a new truck with all the bells and whistles.Toomanybikes Thanks this.

You say you didn't expect a new truck??...but yet your whole posthing consisted of "old" 200k mile trucks and you were sick of getting an "old"truck...nice try though....Toomanybikes Thanks this.

Show me where i complained about having an "old" 200k mile truck. The OP --ENDED-- with me getting a truck with 191,000 miles on it.

Where are you in CA?

I can confirm I had a similar experience with Knight

100-150k is usually considered broken in. 350-500k is when you need to crack the engine open and see how it looks, and replace the crank dampeners etc..(minor rebuild at most. Usually called an inframe since it can be done with the engine still in the truck.) After that you should be good another 300-350k at least before opening it up again.
There are many trucks that have passed 1million miles, and if properly cared for half of the DD15s manufactured are supposed to be able to make it over 1.5 million miles.
This is why mega fleets trade in at 400-500k. They avoid paying for rebuilds and more expensive maintence. When you have 5,000+ trucks. It's just easier to trade them in for new to get something with the best chance at lasting another 2-5 years, and not gambling on it being a million mile truck.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
I would say crappy maintence shops are the reason Knight has so many problems with trucks, but even when maintence is good, just like in medicine you don't get the diagnosis right everytime.
Another thing to consider,,, the trucks sitting at terminals are there for a reason, the driver either quit, or the truck broke down and got put in the shop. Which for me, if I don't care about the truck and it's going to take more than two days, I'm going to jump in another truck. So the mechanics "fix" the problem, put it back in the fleet, the next driver takes it out, and the problem arises because they didn't fully solve the problem, perhaps just patched up the symptoms.MidSouth and Toomanybikes Thank this.
