Who cares what your local job is any of you. This guy is reporting his experience with Knight no more no less. The President of The United States has better job than all of ya! How crappy you all must feel about that.

Good for you. Now go away. You obviously can't listen. I don't want a local job. Period. End of sentence.

There is always gonna be someone who has something that works better for them, so they think they must explain to everyone else how ###### their situation is. Gabe, Knight calls me and send me mail monthly. Finding CURRENT information on this company is kind of difficult, so I personally love this thread and check it often. I hope you keep it up and continue doing what works for YOU.

I'm making some moves into the Texas oilfields, so I won't be taking up an offer with Knight, however, I still appreciate this thread all the same. Best of luck and stay safe driver.

Great. You like OTR. Have at it because nobody is stopping you. I wouldn't want to do P&D either. My problem is and always will be the way OTR drivers get paid. I know they get paid by the mile. But please tell me why in this day and age, they can't get paid for the miles they actually drove? Why do they not get compensation for on duty time other than driving? Why do they have to give free time waiting to load or unload while still on duty? Breakdowns, fueling, scales etc.

There are so many other reasons that I don't have time to write them all down. Here are just a few. Expense of living on the road. Lack of time at home with family. Cost of medical benefits and retirement.

I'm glad you get it because I sure don't.

It's pretty #### simple. The compensation is based on cpm. Just like in local driving where if your not happy with your pay check you can look for a job with a higher $/hr or more hours there are ways to increase compensation getting paid cpm. How do you do that? You look for an employer that pays a higher cpm and/or gives more miles per week. You are caught up in the details of what your getting paid for. To me, when examining pay, I'm way more concerned about what my total compensation is.

Now if you would like to continue extolling the virtues of the pay structure you are currently working under may I suggest you start your own thread and stop cluttering up this one.

Sorry you feel that way. I just wish every truck driver would be be paid in a way that compensates them for all on duty time not just driving. And I mean all on duty time.

Currently training with Knight and have been here (Indy) for almost a month now. I have also been to our training terminal in Joliet (Chicago) for some advanced training which I must say those guys there are GREAT!! As Gabe said the training is awesome. I'm currently awaiting a trainer to do my OTR with. My initial trainer was rerouted out west and got caught in the twisters and they shut him down so I dont know when hes rolling back this way so I'm still in Indy on the range. Another thing about Knight is the paid training. Some companies wait until you are with a trainer to start paying you but Knight starts at day one with orientation $200 and $400 weekly afterwards. No its not full checks but they understand you still maybe have expenses and you do need to eat and they don't want you to be destitute.

I will also say that they do let people go as well. If you're inattentive and non professional they will release you. A few guys I know were let go as they just didn't get some things. The Tractors are well maintained due to service mandates so you'll probably spend more time in service than on the road. We don't do teams! DM's know who the trainers are and afford them sufficient time, but you'll get longer runs also. So you'll run your daily allotted time and shut down together and start again when you reset.

They emphasize safety first and over everything else, so you should escape your first year unscathed.

Made my drop yesterday no problem then my pick up turned out to be a drop-n-hook. Grab it and knocked out 503 miles. Finish up the last 280 on this trip today and I'm about 5 miles from my delivery in the morning at 0900.

I've notice lately most of my loads are light. I mean really light, around 10k. I'm wondering if they are concentrating on booking lighter stuff for the fuel savings or I'm just lucking out and getting mostly light stuff.

Had to open my mouth. My next load was a heavy paper roll load going to San Francisco. Wait it gets better, they gave it to me a day late and thought I could get it there on time.

DM said, "Well you can knock out 600 today and then make it there by 4 pm tomorrow."

Sure I can do a live unload, then a drop and hook that required half an hour of adjust and reweigh to get legal and leave enough room for 50 gallons of fuel, then I can drive these two lane roads through little towns, then drag this heavy load over mountains, and still knock out 600 today. Needless to say it's getting there a day late.

Next load they give me has no directions or phone # for the first of two pick ups. I sent a message saying I need the directions and phone # and please don't just resend the canned message because it's blank(that was the response I got last time this happen). So what does he send? The load assignment and the phone number is still 555-555-5555. Least I had the address and could google some directions.

On a slightly less happy not my payroll was $130 less then it should have been today. Guess they missed the lumper receipt when I scanned my paperwork yesterday. Yes I scanned the receipt. So in between delivering in San Fran and finding a pick up with out customer directions I have to call and yell at payroll.
