Because having done similar runs before, I knew I'd be over service hours. Some of you super truckers don't give a hoot about going over that stuff. But I was doing my best to build up a spotless record to groom myself to the better companies.
Another reason I refused loads was I'd get stuck in places I didn't want to be.
When I signed on with them, the primary reason for leaving Crete was:
1) Knight supposedly had no forced dispatch. That turned out to be a crock.
2) They told me I'd be on the Western runs. That was my specific request when I spoke to them.
As for number 2, on a couple of occasions they told me to go midwest and they'll bring me right back. After sitting at the Kansas City yard for 3-4 day stretches not making anything, I refused those types of loads.
Now that I recall, the bald dispatcher was named Mike (I think). I do remember that little guy ALWAYS wore expensive designer jeans. That was a joke in itself. What kind of a grown man pays north of $100 for a pair of jeans??? I've got $18 Wranglers I bought five years ago that still hold up.
And the next dispatcher I had (after I made a request to the terminal manager) had brown hair, beard and I think he wore glasses. Tom, I think was his name. No better than the first guy. A scumbag really.

Speaking of which, I'm spose to hop on a greyhound this Saturday at midnight to head to Knight Orientation in Phoenix on Monday. I already have my CDL. I graduated 5/30. Just tooken some much needed time off but to be frank I haven't heard one good OTR experience. I blew Swift off after flirting for 3 weeks. I actually went on a test drive for a local company yesterday. I'm probably going to delay orientation for another week to see if I was hired here.

Sounds to me like you where a PITA. Every time you turned down a load just because you didn't want to go somewhere you screwed up everyone elses day. The planner had to find another truck to cover the load you didn't want to do which often means a lot of juggling. You got to sit a lot because you got the rep of being a PITA.

What made him a scumbag? What is your definition of a scum bag?
-
Say whatever you want to make yourself feel better.
And you conveniently forgot to address the part where I stated that I knew some of their runs would eventually get me in trouble with HOS.
Keep waiving your poms poms for knight. LMAO -
For starters, he thought he had the right to yell at drivers just because he's having a lousy day. My first month at knight, another driver quit for the exact same reason. He was a veteran too.
These dispatchers think they got it so hard. At least they get to go home every night. If they think they can use the drivers as a punching bag that makes him scum in my eyes. -
And remember genius - I specifically stated in my post that I signed up for Western run. For them to repeatedly send me out east and make me sit is NOT something I put up with.
You're either a fool or have an agenda to defend knight and the scumbags I mentioned at the Salt Lake terminal. -
Minotaur, really I think Gabescott is just to figure out what went wrong.. he is a good guy, and not really a cheerleader for Knight but I think he has had a decent experience with them. My question would be if they ask you to take a load and your service time wont allow you to get it there on time, what are you suppose to do to keep everyone happy? Most of us want to be team players and do all we can but try to keep your record clean as well
-
If there is not enough service hours to deliver the load, then driver goes over his hours. Plain and simple. Dispatchers have a list of these drivers who'll bend over backwards. And once you make that list, they keep giving you similar runs. If you eventually end up in trouble or god forbid an accident as a result, the fault is all on the driver. Try hiring on to a top tier company with that on your record.
This is the game. I chose to not play it. It's naive to think that you can make everyone happy on a consistent basis. Someone USUALLY gets the long end of the stick and someone USUALLY gets the short end. -
I see, your right. Realistically we cant please everyone. I see if you jump through hoops they will take care of you until something happens then the run for cover and you the driver is left standing alone
