New Safety Award Program!
Effective for the 3rd quarter, which began July 1, 2010 we are pleased to announce a significant change in the Driver Safety Award program that will mean our safe and productive Driving Associates will have the opportunity to earn significantly more than the value of the old Safety Bonds. And rather than receiving the award in the form of a Savings Bond paid annually, the award will be paid out as a cash bonus each quarter.
The eligibility criteria will be largely the same, with a couple of important changes that will factor in CSA 2010 performance. However, we will not add the CSA 2010 component until the fourth quarter allowing each of you more time to learn more about CSA 2010 and how the new Safety Management System will affect both motor carriers and drivers. We look forward to providing each Driving Associate education and information about CSA 2010 during the coming months.
The new Safety Award Bonus will pay qualifying Driving Associates .02 cents per mile for all miles driven during that quarter. The eligibility criteria are:
Driving Associate must be employed at the time the award is paid following the end of the quarter
Driver may not have been placed on probation or suspension for any reason at any time during the quarter.
Driver may not have had a preventable loss/accident during the quarter
Driver must drive at least 28500 miles during the quarter
Driver must complete (2) Safety training topics during the quarter
And, effective beginning in the 4th quarter, Drivers must be in the top 70% of the fleet in CSA 2010 scores (this will allow time for every driver to learn and understand the CSA 2010 program and prepare for it)
Driving Associates, who would have qualified for the old Safety Bond in the month of July, will still earn that award and qualify for the 3rd quarter Safety Award. Drivers with an anniversary in August or September may choose to either receive the old Bond, or the new Quarterly award, but not both. Effective October 1, 2010 bonds will no longer be issued.

Oh, no doubt. Just like the casinos in Vegas weren't built to make you and I rich, none of these companies are gonna do anything to benefit you. Sucks but taht's the way it is.
I can't say that I'll be sad to see the savings bonds go away though. Pretty sweet to get a safety award that actually matures in 10 years huh?

The savings bonds are lame IMO. We're not in elementary school where savings bonds are still cool.
28500 miles in the quarter is a reasonable amount though I think. Comes out to only 7125 miles a month. I know everyone has a different story but last month I drove 11500 miles. So if you have a real good month once in a quarter it can help offset a bad month you may have. I think I read somewhere that the fleet average was around 7000 miles/month so that's probably what they based it on.
And it does say they won't add the CSA2010 component until the fourth quarter, so if you think that might cut you out of the running, at least you'll get your bonus the first cycle.
