Look at the steer tires if they have uneven wear then move on. Any company worth a #### won't let a steer out of the shop if it shows uneven wear.

Drive tires that are not the same...worn steers go on trailers not drives.

Cracked windshields, ungreased fifth wheels, dirty exteriors...like it never gets washed.

These are what I look for in a drive by situation...other drivers might differ.

They make you set your trailer brakes then put it in low and ease out on the clutch.

all these and primer painted parts, rusty wheels, maybe even mis-matched tires, and trucks parked along the side of the garage or fence, seemingly looking like parts donors.

How did they determine the steer fell off? Hub sheer off?

I'd imagine a wheel seal failed, leading to the loss of all the oil, which in turn led the disintegration of the wheel bearings fron heat.

That's after they see the trailer move on the fifth wheel when you stop on the scale. It's a completely avoidable situation though, when a fifth wheel gets that far out of adjustment you can feel it, just adjust it and be done with it.

One place I stopped to check out was beyond shady on repairs. When I asked which truck they would put me in they said most likely that one over there IF we can get it fixed otherwise I might not have a truck for a few weeks for you... I went out and looked at it. I kid you not the battery box was plywood and bungees. Needless to say I didn't fill out an app.... oh and they also paid on 1099...
