it's not about the accuracy, man. it's about the overall picture.
we all know it's not accurate.
i bought it becuase it was cheaper then adding a boost gauge. but other features are added bonuses for me. and now that i'm finally working my way to the east. can't wait to finally see how flatbed freight pulls on flat land. just hope i don't get a phone call for some fabulous rate back west again.
or that i can deal with the humidity. cuz that moisture you guiys got over there. is CRAZY.

keep in mind what you have on the deck greatly influenced drag. in my experience that effects mpg more than weight or terrain.
-
Mine came in the mail today
-
Apparently ( and please correct me somebody if I'm wrong) you can adjust perameters in the mpg figures based on what you are getting pump to pump, so.. A few tanks in you can adjust it so its reading accurately??? On e again, somebody correct me if I'm wrong?
-
That's correct from what I've seen it has a Fuel Tank gauge that you add the fuel into and it calculates off your data .
-
You also put in the Price and your discount for a total net per gallon
-
Whether or not it is "totally accurate" really doesn't matter since all you use it for is a guide to what's happening in the moment, and adjusting your response to maximize your fuel economy. Accuracy in fuel consumption and costs can be left to the use of a piece of paper and a pencil.
-
problem with pen and paper. is you can only do the whole tank average.
most of my running has been in the west. it's nice to see what i'm doing on what small stretches of flat land i can get. or what i get between shut downs. sucks everytime i hit a mountain. or a cross wind.
what's really pathetic is that the 95 t600 oi started back on the road in. got 1 mpg better then the 05 and 2 09's. the 05 being a w9. the 2 09's are aerodynamic and still get just as bad as the 05 w9. -
I agree... keeping a pencil and paper fuel log, breaking up each trip into shorter segments, and using the ECM readout for fuel economy is a great way to tune your driving technique. You can fold the data displayed on a scan gage into that as well.
OTOH, if you're trying to track your expenses, keeping the data on mileage and fuel purchases in a log is the only way to go. KRs free fuel gages product at mygages.com is quite useful for this. -
welcome to the new world of emissions control. I used to get 6 to 6.5 in my 91 pete with a 425 b model cat. all mechanical. in today's world, starting with the electronically controlled throttle, then egr and now dpf. all that stuff makes fuel efficiency worse. Now you need aerodynamics and low rr tires, and half a dozen other tricks just to get the mpg old engines did.
